75 Mustang experts please advise reg. Ignition Key.

Hi everybody, joined the forum and seeking advise.
I have two 75 Mustang notchbacks in Japan.
I had lost the keys due to a theft and now need to get the cars moving.
I opened the two screws holding the door handle flap and thru the opening was able to open the door. Gear shift moved to neutral as well. Now I need to get the steering to rotate. What is the best way to accomplish this as my expertise on Mustang is minimal. Do I have to remove the ignition lock?? Or is there any other approach ??? If have to remove the lock can somebody with expertise advise how to do this??? Hope to hear from knowledgeable members and thanx

buy keys from a ford dealer usually their like 5 - 10 bucks and could probably send them to you. (had a saturn many years ago and lost my key dealership replaced for 5 bucks)

just rekey them you can take the key out pretty easy probably and just put a new cylinder in them

Yes you would have to get into the ignition cylinder to release the steering wheel.

Best bet is to get new keys made.

Ford Repair: 1966 Mustang ignition switch removal, key counter, switch assembly

Er, well that's for a 1966 Mustang but it should be similar if not the very same since most cars are. Also it says to use a wire, but it really means a thin piece of strong metal. A paper clip might work or if you have a pick tool small enough.

Usually the key/ignition cylinder is its own part which can be swapped out. There is a pushable pin on it that keeps it secured. The cylinder itself needs to be removed and inserted in a particular fashion to fit correctly. You can do it but be prepared to sit there and try over and over again because if you slip you may lose that spot.

Anyway after you remove the cylinder there is some type of metal switch or button or tab and when it is depressed it will unlock the locked steering wheel.

What happens is the key cylinder, when turned with the key, keeps that metal button depressed allowing the steering wheel to turn freely.
