So I am really getting on it on some very curve back roads having a blast. I had this Focus, dont know why model simply because he only saw my rear tail lights getting smaller, up on my bumper when I got to the first S turn.I was originally going to take it easy on the first turn but realizing he was wanting to play I let the hammer down and I obliterated him pulled several car coming out of each corner when I came to the first long straight away he was well over 100yds behind me and when I got thru the all the curves I stop and pulled off the road waiting for him. I rolled down the window and smelt the brake again. I got out and smoke rising from the caliper. DAMN!!!! So I wait a while for it to cool. It is only the left side the right was fine. I get back home and take the brake apart and go get another caliper and rotor. I get it installed and go for a test cruise. I get up on the interstate and when I get off the brake is hot again. DOUBLE DAMN. I get home and take it apart and while I am inspecting everything I come across my problem . My axle is loose. It has roughly 3/16 play pulling and pushing on it. I put the brakes back together and pull and push on the rotor. Damn when I pull on it the outer rotor surface hits the outer brake bracket that holds the outer pad in place. TRIPLE DAMN. Now I have either a bad axle or bad bearings.
So I am spending my leather seat money on the damn rearend. This sux!!!

STOP!
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR.
The C clip that holds the axle in place IS MISSING. the only thing keeping your axle shaft in the car is the caliper, if you had drums the axle shaft would be gone.
STOP!

^^ that's what I was thinking, but it could also be a loose caliper bracket. The axle should have a little play in it.
Plus, if a c-clip fell out, then he would have really chewed up gears and posi. Metal floating in the pumpkin would only get into the ring and pinion set and cause more damage.

Urgent Urgent!!!!!!
I am not driving it!!! I know it is not the Calipers because I bought a new one and they are tight on the mount bracket attached to the axle housing.
Now that I think about it I tried pulling with all my might to get the axle to come out when I had the brake assembly off.

Found the source of the problem. Differential is bad. It needs a rebuild or I need a new one. Something behind the spider gear that the left rear axle shaft slides thru is worn or compressed. So I am at a dilemma as to what to do??? Do I buy new or rebuild

Dude I have taken the old C clip out installed the new clip in and nothing. still slops 3/16. I took the other side out and checked it the Shaft is OK. Where I have the problem is in the spider gear is recessed do to the wearing of the clutches or thrust washer. That spider has buggered up teeth from it actually not meshing correctly
