Well ... what I am about to tell you you may not like. Expect horrible times and to leave sad lol. You have to get used to the track and your car and work to run the best times you can. It may take a bit of experience to reach that level.
Start off learning how to launch the car. Until you get a solid 2.1 60ft or better do not power shift or shift the car hard... there is simply no point. If the 60 ft time sucks the rest of the run will as well no matter how fast you shift or how high you rev. So until then shift crisp and dont rev to high.
Once you get a 2.1 or below start shifting better.
Dont do a burn out, avoid the water box. Only attempt to launch before you get on the line to see how sticky the track is. Line up nice and slow, the first yellow light (watch a few runs to see where this is triggered and it happening) means your pre staged, which means you have just a bit to go before you are fully staged.
The second yellow light comes on then that means get ready. If the other car is already staged with both yellow as soon as you get both yellow lights you only have like 2 seconds. Rev up to about 2500-3000 rpms and when the second light from the top lights up ease off the clutch and get on the gas. When the front of the car comes up hammer it and go lol.
You will get the hang of it after a couple runs and you can start to work on launching. Drop the air in your tires a bit if you want that may help. Get in the groove as well (where all the black rubber is) it helps you stick. Know where the end of the track is so you know when to let off.
Thats about all I can think of

Sixty miles is a long way to push when you break something. Make sure you know someone with a trailer. I'm not saying you are going to break something today, but if you race enough you will eventually.

yea, I broke my rear end at a track that I barley knew how to get to... trying to tell a tow truck how to get there was not fun. So be prepared in case that happens. If you race you break stuff same with modifying, there are always issues.

5 speed.
Thanks spector. I wasn't able to go tonight because I kinda caught my hand on fire early today. I hope I can go tomorrow. If my car breaks down I got some buddies around that area. So are the lights like the ones on pinks all out be4 rich chisterwhatever does his thing. And its an 1/8 mile if that matters and its not bracket race its a drag. I do realize i'll lose but i just want to have some fun and gain some experience.

It depends on what kind of tree they are running, but I doubt they are running a pro tree for straight up off the street drags. (unless you mean the staging lights, which are pretty self explanatory if you just watch a few guys stage before you go race)

yea the only ones ive been at have a pro type tree~ and dont worry about reaction time as it has ZERO bearing on the final time your car runs

so i'm clear, I meant pro tree as in: all ambers, green
instead of sequential ambers 1, 2, 3 then green
I don't think i've ever seen the "all amber" tree at a local place on a TnT night
