not only that, but its temporary. the government invests in these companies so they can have some time to sell off assets, regain their composure, and continue operations. they didnt mean for some companies to abuse the government's generosity and give out bonuses and whatnot cough cough aig cough cough.

i think its the other way around. im sure the government would be more than willing to give up the company and get its money back - lets just hope the company is willing to fork the money back over to the taxpayers.
