is this any good? like...compared to the stock airbox w/ k&n filter or a cold air system.
and what do aftermarket air intakes sound like? whistly? or deeper? ive heard both.

The MAC straight shot is very simular in design to the K&N FIPK II, only is made of chrome metal tubing, instead of ABS plastics.
I have clips of CAI's on my Article

links didn't work for the clips.
question tho...is plastic or metal better for the tubing, and which is better, a CAI or a straight-shot, which is basically a ram-air?

I have Mac straight and I love it. I believe is better then cold air intake.
And your question about plastic or metal is hard to tell because air doesn’t stay in the tube long enough to get hot.

i'd say that metal is better than plastic, becuz plastic could concievably melt, or deform. develope a thin spot or hole... and a straight shot isn't the same as ram air. it simply removes one of the bends in the induction path. instead of air entering the filter and then bending 90*s as with a fenderwell CAI, the air instead flows up into the fender, through the whole, and into the engine bay, where it goes into the filter
cliff notes: less bends = better air velocity

honestly, there will be NO difference with cold air intakes, the bends make no difference, because these engines dont suck enough air to where the bends become a restrictions
im assuming the straight shot is the one where the K&N is exposed in the engine bay, isnt it? if it is, get one where the filter is in the fenderwell, because you get hotter air in the engine bay, and in the fender, its cooler air, and generally less likely to pick up debris from what ive noticed

no matter which brand you go with the gains are nearly nothing, expect very little I would say 5hp/4tq max

i agree with the minimal hp gains. the only thing i noticed on mine is a really sweet whine when accelerating. it sounds pretty cool and its quite noticable. i don't have a sound clip though. the MAC straight shot is what i have and it also looks pretty nice in the engine bay.

yay. i ordered an ebay cold air instead of the straight shot.
red grommets and such instead of blue so it'll match the car better.
