Realistically, on premium fuel, 7-12RWHP, 7-12RWTQ and thats from idle to the rev limit. Improved throttle reponse, better shifting if you have an auto, removed speed limiter, raised rev limiter. Send me an email if you want some more information.

My WOT shifts have been around 6000 for several years now.
Good maintenance practices are key when running a car hard.
I keep to strick oil & tranny fluid changes & monitoring.

I don't doubt it...but Spec was has been giving 04Stang a hard time about having the rev limiter over 5500...as you probably saw in the thread about 04stang and his new SCT tune.

Spector doesn't think you should do anything to a car other than make it look pretty.
People do like to go fast in their cars!

I dont think you should just make your car look pretty... Im OCD about keeping your car in perfect working order... lol thats all. I have raged the crap out of cars before... Ive just grown up a bit and know the consequences to messing stuff up (I had to be towed home from an hour away cuz i broke my car at the track....)
I like performance just as much as looking good if not more... but being stupid and having a good performing car are two different things. the only advantage to shifting past your peak is to keep the rpms higher for the next gear.
valve float will happen about 5700-5900... thats very very bad if you want to go to 6k then go for it... but have some money saved up for motor repairs, you may never have an issue... but you may so just make sure you know what you are getting into.
Like i said im OCD about keeping my car in perfect working shape, there is a time to have fun with it of course but I dont go around doing burn outs and all that crap every day, just now and again wait till I get my next car and tell me I dont worry about performance
oh and once you break the shit out of your car... you will have a little more feel for takign care of it as well

How do you know thats where valve float happens? You don't. Ford tests the motors to a much higher RPM than that, and usually sets the rev limiter 600rpm below that.
A 6000rpm rev limiter (400rpm higher than stock) is completely safe with a stock cam and stock valve springs, I would program a chip or flasher with a 6k rev limit if it was not safe.

Im sorry, you are correct in the above. I was confused, the stock rev limiter for his and my car as well is 6k rpms. I was also way off on the valve float... lol I dont know what got me thinking that... oh well. If I had known you were the one that done it I wouldnt have said anything cuz I know you know what you are doing. He had just mentioned someone that was local and im sure they dont know as much as you or one of the other good tuners do.

Spector is right about raising the rev limiter on a near stock car though. There's no need to rev to 6000 when power peaks at 5200 (or whatever the V6 peaks at, not sure on that). There's no reason to be shifting a car that peaks power at 5200 anywhere near 6000 rpm. All you're doing then is increasing valve-train wear and risking valve float, because your definitely not making any power.

On a 4spd automatic the gears are spaced so far apart that shifting at a higher RPM keeps you in the powerband when you shift into the next gear. My auto V6 ran faster NA with higher RPM shift points, and SilverStang's does too.
On a 5spd with closer gear spacing I agree that shifting at a higher RPM is not beneficial, but at least if you shift a little late at the track or while bracket racing you don't hit the rev limiter and trash the whole run, you just run a tiny bit slower whereas with a stock limiter you would of hit it and lost some time.

a 6k rev limiter is really only needed if you have a new cam/heads and new valve springs that can handle the stress. recently got my new SCT X-cal2 from justin and the rev limiter is at a little over 6k and it makes power all the way up to that point, then pulls even harder through 2nd and 3rd. i also have new cam and heads. the chip is worth the money, especially for a modded vehicle and even for a stock one. a stock one will get better gas mileage, a little more hp, and better shift points (autos). when i hooked up the flasher the car ran much better and smoother than before, even with my loopy idle from the cam. but my car now truely sounds like a v8. even the guys with GT's think i have av8 in my car, its great.

your car will simply be much happier with a chip/flasher with or without mods in it. spend the few hundred bucks and get one, you will be much happier.

Personally I would wait and do a chip in stages. I would not buy one on a bone stock V6 and then need one when you do gears. Plan your mods smartly, do not deviate unless you absolutely have to. A well laid out plan of modding will save you a bundle I PROMISE!!!! Been doing it for 25 years
