There's a black 99 cobra convertible for sale locally.. 44k miles drives great looks good..
only issue is its a convertible...
The cowl shake and the shake through the steering wheel would drive me nuts... but the car search isn't going well
If I got a convertible what would I have to do to get rid of the cowl shake??

Not sure about the cowl shake, or whether this suggestion would cure it (I don't have the shake in mine), but a good set of subframes will do wonders to the car. Some MaximumMotorsports or Hans Racecraft connectors will really make the car feel like a rock.
A strut tower brace might not be a bad idea either, which might be why I haven't had the shake (unless it just wasn't present on the 03s).
I say get the vert. I love mine, and wouldn't switch for nothing. Stiffen the chassis with some good components and you will mighty happy...in my mind.
Another option would be to go over to svtperformance.com and post out there to the guys that have the 99s. They might know exactly what to do.

never get a vert if its a fast car like a cobra.
NHRA regulations specify that 13.99 or under requires a 6 point cage. im already screwed, as are most stock mustang GT/Cobras. sometimes the track wont notice, others theyll notice instantly and kick you out.
im wishing i got a hardtop so i dont have to worry about driving 2 hours, spending 15 bucks, then driving 2 hours home and only running once.

Not completely true. It may be in NHRA rules, but every NHRA track I have been to does not require a cage until you drip into the mid 11s. 13.99 and under they require a helmet (whether you are a coupe or vert).
Now, who's to say he is getting the car to live at the track? If he is doing that, then it would be dumb to get a vert. Just get a rolling chassis and build it up. My guess is he will be spending more time just driving around town then he will at the track.
Get the vert...you won't regret it.

you also forget you live in California, where a lot of things are as strict as it gets.

I spend time at the track... but thanks for pointing that out to me.. that's a good call too.. more twisting at track, too = less power to ground..
sucks

My 91 5.0 is a convert. and although its great in the summer, its a pain in the ass when it starts to leak. Also, when I was living in CA. I almost got car jacked once and another time someone cut a hole in my top. Bottom line, if you dont take care of the top it will get its revenge on you.

actually they lowered that rule this year...I think its 13.5 or even 12.99 not sure..check the 2005 NHRA rules.
When I get my cobra vert(I will soon enough) I will be putting a 6-pt cage in it and making it fast as all hell. I want the droptop for those beautiful days out when you just need to drop the top and cruise around.
And a vert with a cage just shows you mean business
