Hello Everyone,
I have only owned one Ford. A (new then) 1995 Explorer. It was a horrible "car", and I swore I would never own another Ford product. Well - the new Mustang GT has me rethinking that. I am still a bit gun shy and concerned over quality control and frequency of repair issues. I intend to do more research and joining this forum is one way I hope to gain more insight into this car's reliability and quality issues. Any tips or comments about that are genuinely appreciated. Thanks!
Doug

Well it's only been a few months to a year since the 2010 Mustang has been on the market so long term reliability I can't say, however Ford's (in general and overall) reliability is almost equal to that of Toyota's in the Last few years, if not equal and slowly surpassing them.

You should have no issues with reliability. Fit and finish on these cars is lightyears above what your 95 explorer had.

There are ALWAYS lemons, dont listed to that BS that Honda and Toyota feed you... the quality of Ford and Chevy are right there with them if not better. Ford has had some issues on vehicles in the past but the Mustang is tried and true. The same basic underpinnings have been on the 1996-2010 mustang engine wise. There are always a few little things to work out on new models but I expect nothing major.
I have owned 3 mustangs over nearly 12 years and never had one major issue with any of them, while it is possible I know that they are good cars and if taken care of will do you good for a long time. My wife drives an 05 maxima it has had more issues than my 03 ford...

Excellent point!! Reliability is important with any car purchase -- but if I were to get one, it would be because of how it feels when I drive it and when I look at it parked in my garage!

I just don't see reliability being an issue with a brand new car.

Yah, you don't want reliability to be an issue when buying a brand new vehicle, but look at that poor bastard that bought that camaro...40 miles on the clock...and fucked! Fail!

new iterations of cars almost always have bugs in them, i'd wait for the second year if reliability is your main goal

Well then maybe wait until 2012 just in case. Ford fans are hoping for new engines on both the GT and V6 for the 2011 year.

I have a '06 mustang GT with 50,000 miles. I've never had any issues at all with the car. Being that the 2010 shares the same drivetrain as the 05/09 I think it will be just as good.

I have a 1965 2+2, 1966, 1968, 2006, and a 2010. Overall I love my new pony, it's fit and finish is probably the best I have seen in any new car. I absolutely love the paint, Red Candy Metallic. I live in Alaska and traded in a 3 month old 09 Focus I purchased as a commuter when I saw this one sitting on the dealers show room floor. I put about 100 miles per day on a car and can tell you in the last six months I've racked up over 7500 miles and no issues, no rattles, no problems. One of the quietest cars and best riding cars I have ever owned. I really enjoy my commute. The GT just sounds right, every time I rev the engine I feel like I'm in the movie BULLITT. I bought this car because to me everything is right, sounds good, looks great, more than adequate performance stock and just waiting for the supercharger to turn it into a real beast. I'd buy another one just to have a different color, I really like the Black and Gold paint schemes. She's not a hot rod yet but not a trailer queen either, she gets driven everyday and right now has studs on her for the winter driving, people say I'm crazy for driving it in the winter but I don't own them just to collect at them, they all look good sitting next to each other but look better going down the road.

I don't have much to contribute that hasn't already been said, but I think you've made your mind up pretty much. You joined a Mustang site to ask if you should get a Mustang. We're not going to talk you out of it, haha.

by the way, ford has won awards for reliability for the last several years... they turned their stuff around quite a while back.
i think fusion is one of the better scored cars.
