reset ecu: how?

ok someone can move this after its answered. but its kinda urgent.


to reset the ecu do i simply disconnect the negative battery terminal and let it sit for a while? cuz the new intake is giving me a check engine light

i ask because i really don't wanna take my car in to a shop to have it fixed

disconnect the positive terminal and stand on the brakes for a few seconds to drain all the power out..maybe let it sit for 5-10 minutes and hook it back up.

its the positive? i thought it was the negative?

ok so another question, if i were to disconnect both, what order would it be?

in all of my engineering courses, every electronic circuit/device we use the power always comes off first. Leaving a power source connected with no and/or an insufficient ground will cause damage to electronics.

I dunno where the ground wire first came from on cars though..

I reset mine by just disconnecting the battery completely and letting it sit for 30 mins. Hooked it back up, it was cleared. When in doubt, just disconnect everything. lol

take off the positive side, hit the brakes 5-6 times, and it should be reset. You may want to get the codes read before you do it though to make sure its something with your CAI
