Ive noticed lately when I brake mild to hard like for a stop light, my engine rpm will drop near or below 500 and begin to do the chug thing like its gonna die. its a manual so I rev it when this happens. do I need to clean my throttle body?? or what might this be (55,000 miles)

Clean your IAC. It is what controls your idle speed and a sticky one might do this.
Also, as I am not a Ford guy this may not be relevant, but on EFI Mopars there is a speed senspr connected to the computer. When it starts to fail (wrong pulse counts but not dead) then you get this symptom.

clean your maf with some no residue contact cleaner for electrical parts (radio shack or autozone has it) then clean the idle bypass valve, its on the upper intake behind the TB.
See if that helps, do you run your AC? mine idles low if I run it and I am stopped.

I would also check for vacuum leaks.

mine did that for a bit when i put the CAI on. then once the ECU learned the new air flow settings it fixed it.
a few times it stalled me out too :P
so i don't think its clutch related

I was thinking the same thing. There are few things that would cause Vacuum leaks. A sticky TB plate will cause the TB to stay open a little, so you can check that as well.

Also check the hose that goes from the Brake booster to the upper intake. It can dryrot and get brittle and crack.
