Hey all, I have a 2002 v6 mustang. I just installed 3.73 gears and an auburn posi...they work great. I also got a chip from VMP to make up for the gear ratio. Anyway, I have 2 tunes; and 89 octance performance tune and a 92 octane performance tune.
Ok, I've only had it on the 89 octance setting since I've installed the gears. Yesterday, after running my tank to empty on 89 octance fuel I gased up with the premium stuff(92 octane) and away I went. As soon as I got up in the RPM's, I got the dreaded pinging noise (!!!!!!!) Anyway, After a few blocks I stopped my car and switched it back to the 89 octane setting and bing, no more ping! (yay). Anyway, I'm assuming it was pinging because there was a little bit of the 89 octance fuel in the tank when I filled up with 92(even though the tank and almost empty and my low fuel light was on). Anyway, I'm thinking I'll just wait a day or so and let some of the lower octane fuel get burned out and then switch to the 92 octane setting on the chip and see if it still pings. Any input on that?
Also, will it hurt my car any to run 92 octane fuel on the 89 octane chip setting? I don't think so, but I just thought I'd check with you guys.
Cheers,
James
