My Cooling System

Well my car is Chevy and I have no idea as to where to post this, so I will just let one of the mods yell at me and move it  So heres the story.........
Ok just got back from my car getting the oil changed, and found out that some oil got into the hoses leading to the cooling system. So I was wondering how much flushing the cooling system would be, change the transmission fluid, and service it. If anyone has done it themselves or had it done your input would be much appreciated.  |

i'd recommend the whole system just to be safe. oil is a tricky bastard

OK, now that that's done, did you take it somewhere to have the oil changed? If so, they'd be doing the flushing and what not for free for me.

Yes I got the oil changed, but the tubes were soaked before going there...wich is odd to me cause when I checked last they were fine. I mean the thing is like one of those stress balls the way that it feels now, and makes that nasty squishy noise. |

just a question, but seeing your oil cap is right there in front, how did they get oil into the cooling system?

are you positive they did it and your head gasket isnt blown? a blown HG will send oil and coolant mixing together in a foamy slosh that looks like jizz.
i pulled the valve cover off a saturn once with a blown HG and it wasnt a pretty sight. looked like ron jeremy just got done blowing his chode straight into the oil cap. needless to say we took apart the whole engine and had it totally redone. block, head, the works. everything was pressure washed to rid it of the jizz.

Lol, sorry no input for ya, except it happened to me awhile back.
Flushing the system on our cars is not all that bad, Chevy may be different though.

doesn't have to be foamy... I'd changed oil MANY times on my '98 chebby (same engine you have) and I NEVER had oil in my coolant nor coolant in my oil.. unless they were dumbasses and put the oil in the radiator instead of the engine... I'd say you've got a leak somewhere's.. intake gaskets are most likely with chevy, but headgaskets are possible

If you have oil in the coolant, you probably have coolant in the oil too. If so you are looking at a rebuilt, coolant loves to eat bearings.
As for the squisy hose, replace it. Oil deteriorates hoses no specifically designed for oil and it will fail. Usually at the least opportune time.
If you plan to own this vehicle forever and can afford the cost the police spec silicone hoses will hold up to oil and last a long time.

Sounds like blown head or other gasket to me too.
