Backfiring Through Exhaust

Hi my names Rudy J.I'm having problems with my 2003 GT.When I start my car it cranks then backfires through the exhaust and stalls.It take a couple tries to get her started.They only way she'll stay running is if I rev my engine right after start.I changed the camshaft position sensor and it fixed the problem for an afternoon.But this morning when I tried to leave for work it did it again and the service engine soon light came back on!

check your codes and go from there, chances are it has to do with crank sensor

do you have access to a scan tool ??? How's your fuel pressure ? could be a fuel problem ?? a clogged cat can cause problems as well getting the PID info will make this alot easier

May be your temp sending unit.

I haven't checked ma fuel pressure.Dout It has anything to do with the cat. converter.I don't have any

It's not related to your cats. I had a temp sensor go in my truck, the sensor failed making my truck think the temp was -35. It tried to compensate for the low temp by adding more fuel. Does your car smoke, or skip when it does run? Do you know what the code is?

I dont know what the code is.the guy at autozone couldnt pull it up.he said i have a burnt fuse somewhere.i havnt checked em yet.and the car runs great after i get it started

I have a freind with an '03 GT thats doing the same thing, we have tried the IAC, cam sensor, crank sensor to no avail.

He did get a Fuel rail pressure sensor malfuntion code but that was it, he cleared it by accident and it never came back.

But its still doing the same thing, is your car also when coming to a stop staying idle at 1100 rpms then when you blip the throttle it goes back down to 600-700 rpms? He is haveing that same problem and i think it may be related, also does it backfire and kill only under cold start up or is it doing it every time you start it?

Did you try the alternator idea like the guy said on the modded mustangs forum? If so did it work?

Extra tid bit for anyone who wants to sctrach there head on this problem, since he has remote start on the car I tried this to see what it would do, cranked,car tried to start then exhaust pop with puff of smoke then dies, continued cranking for a few seconds, another exhaust pop with puff of smoke(car did not even try to start), kept cranking for a few seconds then timed out.

only thing i can think of ( haven't really worked on 02 gts) but what about a tps? the coming to a stop on the second mustang and having it idle at 1100 sounds like a tps issue, but i'm not 100% sure, just sounds like somethin that could be going bad...
