ambulance came and picked him up some time Friday because he wouldn't get out of bed. They took him to the hospital, ran some tests, said it didn't look good. He spent the next almost full day resting, and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, he died. Funeral is Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. (first one I've been to that I'll be able to remember). Last one was in 1993, for my dad's dad that was 93. I was 7 or 8, but don't remember very much of it. I didn't know that grandpa at all either... my dad said I wouldn't have wanted to. But anyway, I took off 2 nights of work, and I may be in and around here for a little bit, who knows. See ya' guys.

I remember when my Grandpa died and couldn't make it to the funeral due to Air Force commitments. I still remember him fondly, and still get a tear in my eyes, just like now.
I am sorry for your loss, I hope he had a great life, and I hope you enjoyed the time with him as I am sure he enjoyed with you. Those will always be special times in your heart.
Once gain, sorry for your loss, and take care of your Grandmother.

he'll be getting a 21 gun salute for his participation in the South Pacific (Navy) in WWII.

A bunch of Marine reservists did a full military funeral for my Dad, he was also in the Pacific in WWII, Marine Corps, went in when he was 17, two weeks after the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor. I think anyone who was ever in the military will always carry a little bit of it with them, I know I remember things over 30 years ago in the Air Force like they were yesterday.
