I've read the posts about removing the headlight on/off knob. but has anyone ever removed the shaft that the knob attaches to? It looks like the detent on the shaft has worn to the degree that the funky little clip on the knob won't hold the knob while is being pulled to ON.
I bought one (knob) from Ford and it has the shaft on it. It appears that you have to get behind the instrument panel to access the switch to free the shaft.
Anybody ever done this? Looking for suggestions...
This is on my '95 GT

You will have to remove that panel. It's held in by two screws in the upper part of the instrument display and the rest is just held in with snaps. Once you remove those screws simply pull on the unit and it will come out, this should give you access to what you need.
