Hey, I want ot get new spark plugs because of a pinging issue with one of the tunes on my SCT chip. Justin said that changing out my spark plugs would possilby fix my issue with the pinging. My question is this; do I go with 32 or 22 heat rang plug and do I go with copper or platinum? Also, is install easy? Any headaches I can expect while putting them in? What can I expect form new spark plugs??? can this end my pinging with the 92 octane program for my chip?? Also, what brands?? Most people mention motorcraft, but I'm not sure. Good plugs easy to find locally...say at autozone or somehting??? Are new plugs worth it? Would it really help my pinging issue?
BTW, I have a 2002 v6 with a manual tranny
Also...what the heck is a PCV delete system...and what the heck is a pcv??

Use Motorcraft or Autolite. The Motorcraft are platinum and use the Autolite standard copper. Either will be fine. Stay clear from Bosch plugs though

the install isn't hard as long as you're careful. don't yank on the igniton wire boot to get it off and be careful when putting the new spark plugs in that you don't over tighten or under tighten them. they can crack if you're not careful.
Plus you should pay attention to what the old spark plugs look like, then maybe that will help diagnose the ping. the tip maybe be completely fried, or have a black residue or be banged up. I forget the website but just go to Yahoo or something and get info on diagnosing spark plugs. you should be able to find a page that has the pic of the spark plug and what a normal or dammaged one looks like.
Since you have a chip and using 92 octane you may not have a hot enough spark or too hot of a spark. some of those chips or tuners advance the spark and make it hotter at certain RPM's.... i don't know for sure but i think it's something to look in to.

Cool, so you're saying that new plugs might help then. ANyone know the difference between platinum and copper??? New plugs expensive? Can I just go to say...autozone and pick some new ones up?

platinum has a higher melting point than copper i think. i have NGK iridium IX spark plugs only because iridium has a higher melting point than copper and platinum and because i plan on getting some serious boost on my car next spring.

you should be able to find a nice set of double platinum plugs for under 30 bucks.(that's what i would go with) or you can get some 5$ ones too if u want. doesn't make much of a difference unless u have a nicely modded engine....
Autozone should have what you need. (for some reason i actually can't find them for my car online) they probably have it on computer and know which ones will fit your car. they should know the gap specifications as well....Also pick up a little pack of dielectric grease to put on the end of your spark plug so the boot will slide on easier and will be protected from corosion.
good luck

if you get iridium plugs you don't have to gap them. just a nice piece of knowledge i thought i would share, i just don't know why you don't have to though. the ones that i have cost me $35 at advance auto parts. whatever you do don't get bosch platinium plugs of any kind. they don't work well with mustangs. they will make your car perform worse.

In some cases, detonation can occur with certain setups, especially when using nitrous. I was told to stay away from those plugs

YES! Bosch sucks, never use them
A little input, since HP&trq forgot to mention it. To get your boots off the proper way grab them at the base not the wire and twist/pull. Exentually they will break away and you'll be on to the next step. Shange the plugs one at a time and replace the wire as ssoon as you do it so your wires don't get mixed up.

If you pay more than 10-12 bucks for plugs you sent to much. Motorcraft and Autolight work with any setup you do to your stang. NGK double super duper magic mega plugs is all hype. I dont care if you have a supercharger, nitous or big time N/A.Their is no super plug that gives you HP or 10 more miles to the gallon.

No performance difference really. You will probably get some addition mileage off of platinum but I dont really care much because at less than $10 a set of plugs I change them every year or earlier if I am doing dynos!!!

I agree to a certain point as usual
There are certain plugs that have been tested under high boost/nitrous applications that won't get blown out and provide a stronger spark than most cheaper plugs can provide. This is nice because you will get less missfires and make more consistant power.
However, on OUR cars you don't really need them unless your pushing 15-20+ psi of boost or running like a 150 shot.
I use autolite's and change them every several month's.

well, what about getting a colder plug? Would that help the pinging I'm getting with the 92 octane program on my SCT chip??? I think I'll end up going autolite...most people say those are good plugs.
