Knocking noise

Ok, I installed new struts and shocks this weekend. My strut mounts were in good condition, really just replaced cause the car has 116K on it. Im getting a knocking noise when the wheels drop down in front, like coming out of a driveway, sounds fine going over bumps. What should I look for? Could the sway bar bushings be worn out?

Well my first silly but neccesary question is did you buy OEM parts or aftermarket. the second is that if you are hearing a knocking noise when the wheels are dropping out it might be a shock problem. Like they are dropping out too much. I think? Anyway i am sure others will chime in. Ohh but another silly suggestion. Make sure that you double checked tightening everything and that you had a good seat for your struts when you do.

did you tighten the strut nut correctly where it goes through the CC plate (into the engine bay) that has to be TQ'ed correctly and can only be done with an impact since... you spin the shaft of the strut doing it by hand and get no where (unless it has a slit or a way to hold the shaft still while you tighten the nut)

Other than that make sure the bolts on the stock CC plates are tight (TO SPEC no tighter to prevent issues with breaking bolts)

The only other catch is where the strut bolts to the knuckle~ recheck your bolts to make sure.

I used a basic Gabriel replacement since I was short on cash. I tightened the nut fully, pretty sure everything is tight, but I guess Ill double check, the setup is totally stock. Im wondering, does the OEM strut have a bumper inside to absorb the shock that the gabriel does not?

When in doubt, rip it out! I replaced the ball joints, sway bar bushings, new brakes, rotors and now it sounds like a new car going over bumps.
