okay so i'm thinking about adding some mods to my 95 3.8 and i have a few questions....
1) are the cold air intakes on ebay worth the money or should i go with k&n or something?
2) which would be better mod to start with cai or udp?
3) if i get an exaust will i lose hp or torque? i remember reading somewhere about a guy losing power off the line because of the loss of back pressure...
thanks for the help

I would do Underdrive pullies first as I actually felt something when I did them, not like when I put a Cold Air on.

CAI is a cheap and easy mod, i would do it first to get your feet wet. It doesnt add much hp/tq, probably wont notice any difference...but it is a step along the way.
I would then do a UDP, exhaust, and rear end gears/tlok.

It all depends on what you want to do with your car....I would get an exhuast system first. it will be more noticeable and help your car sound and breathe better. If anything i gained HP from mine. If you get true duals you'll have more exhaust flowing through and i would think since it's flowing through two mufflers you would have more back pressure and not less. someone correct me if i'm wrong.
as far as CAI goes i would hold off on it and just get a nice K&N filter. I felt no difference with my Mac CAI. You may feel a difference if you do more mods to your car and all the performance mods will work together...but by itself i don't think it would do much but look pretty under the hood. why would you want to add something that makes no difference? i think it's a waste of money to get that first.

The bottom line is, no matter how much you do bolt ons dont do much of anything. Rear end gears will give you the BEST bang for the buck PERIOD for the price. With gears in your car you will shave off over half a second depending on ratio from your current times. Thats a good bit.... with all the bolt ons you should not expect more than .3 tenths off....

yea but it depends on what he wants to do. for some people they don't care about shaving off half or a tenth of a second or whatever, they just want a little more power then stock. not everyone drag races. that's why he needs to figure out what he wants. i agree that gears would make a much better improvement, but expensive if you can't do the labor yourself. that's why i suggest doing the exhaust system.
there's never an easy solution to any of this unless you have all the tools and knowledge.

I was just using how much faster the car would go to give an idea of the gains.

Yes most are worth it
UDP provides more of a gain on a stock motor but we are only talking about a couple of extra HP
This is the biggest load of poop that spreads thru the internet. If you have your cats on you really are not going to lose anything. Dual exhaust on a stock motor is like 2 hp and the loss of torque is laughable. Now if you remved the cats and put 2.5 in pipes you might lose some.
Your welcome

Gears are a great upgrade. Even on the street they give a nice kick.

the UDP is a fairly easy thing to swap out, and I did notice some improvement. Duals are a good idea, find some takeoffs from a GT or a Mach1. The CAI didn't do that much, if anything at all, but it makes it sound cooler. I haven't done gears yet, but it's a good thing to have done, I'm just cheap.
I'd start at the UDP. other than gears, it would be the most noticable.
However, in terms of which bolt on/mod is better, more often than not, the last one you do will be the best(or it'll feel like that, anyways).
Good luck!

Austin, huh?
I work there.
I put duals on my 96, I noticed no change in the way of power, sounds nicer though.

well you'll want gears...as you have 2.73's and 99+ had 3.27's
maybe a brake upgrade because you have only 1-piston calipers
udp for sure, helps more on your car than 99+
get cold air and put on a k&n filter in place of the one that comes on it
