I've thought of this for the last few years.... why don't we get everyone from this forum together and engineer the first hybrid mustang? My friends say i have stupid ideas that won't work but if i could buy a muscle car getting 35 miles to the gallon, i'd be all over it. The Ford Escape has a line of hybrids. Why can't we manipulate the electric motor in that one to fit in a mustang? I know it's not easy and somebody is probably making one right now.
We could make a line of hybrid V6 stangs that start with an efficient engine putting out 215 HP or so and then add an electric motor. I've seen some electric motors that add up to 75 HP. Of course there would be a ton of electronics involved which i hate but it would be cool. Have the batteries recharge from the dissipated heat and maybe solar power as well. and when you got WOT the electric motor kicks in giving you an extra 50 HP all throughout the powerband.
Every time your car is idling you can have a button to press to have the eclectric motor run if you're in traffic or something. that way if you're gonna race the guy next to you, you still have the option of running the gas engine. I have like 10,000 more ideas for this but would take too long to list and i'm sure i'll get crap from somebody about this. anyways i just wanted to throw some built up thoughts out there.

I don't want a hybrid sports car.
I want to hear the rumble and smell the gas burning.

you can still hear the rumble and still have the displacement. my idea didn't take anything away from that if you payed attention. just that when you're in traffic or idling for a long period of time you have the opportunity to save gas as i explained. and you can have more power. when it costs 60 bucks to fill up our tanks someone will start listening....

It costs me 40 bucks to fill up my tank, I don't care.
I didn't buy the car for fuel economy I bought the car to beat the hell out of it and get the least amount of MPG I could

A hybrid takes up a lot of room, especially if you want to keep the stock engine.
If you want 35 mpg the easy way take out the V6 and put in a turbo 4. Power when needed, economy when not needed.
However meritorious your ideas there is one huge stopping block, the Feds. To tie into the E85 thread the reason there are no E85 kits for cars is because the EPA has determined that all alternative fuel kits have to be certified to meet emissions and that is a major cost to do. Even is the cost of the kit isn't that much.

yea i guess my thinking is geared differently since half of my commute home i spend sitting in traffic wasting gas. plus in my town there's stop signs or lights like every 100 feet it seems. i get 15 MPG right now and i don't have much of a moded car nor do i have the power to make up for the bad mileage. and i know people don't buy these cars for the mileage but i thought it would be an incentive if there was something more efficient that offers the same if not more power. i understand why none of you would be interested, but here in Cali i think i'd get a much more appreciated response. I guess it all depends where you live and what you do.

werd.
if i want a hybrid, ill buy one. the day they make hybrid stangs is the day i lose all faith in america.
hybrids will become more common for daily driving and commuting, but there will always be the need for the fast weekend car, no matter how crappy its mileage.
