'05 side mirrors - painted

I just don't like the black plastic look of the side mirrors on my red 05 gt.
I haven't seen painted side mirrors for sale.
The Roush has their painted fully.
The Steeda has the front quarter painted.
I picked up some factory paint from O'Rilleys last weekend and have my mind set of painting them fully red to match the car.
Has anyone else done this? Are there any concerns I should know about ahead of time.
I don't know what kind of paint I have, exactly, I asked for them to match the factory paint. They also had me buy the reducer and hardener for the paint. Can I put this paint directly to the plastic? Should I put some sort of primer on the mirrors first?
The plastic has a textured surface to it. After it's painted I want it to be smooth.
Any suggestions?

humm, I didnt' think about doing it that way. How much did they charge you?
I've already bought the paint though. I figured I'd buy a small airbrush and lay it on that way.

well I had to have mine painted actually.. sucked... they didnt charge me cuz they were painting my bumper and fender so they threw em in. I would figure 100 bucks for labor and paint~ 150 max~ probably 60 bucks labor and rest in paint charges.

If you are painting those stock mirrors...you're gonna want to sand them down smooth before doing anything. Then getting a good primer coat to make sure the paint sticks, otherwise it will come off.

dont paint em yourself its just a screw up waiting to happen. Just get a shop to take em and paint em. Make sure you tell them you want them sanded SMOOTH and then painted just like any other part of the car. Since the items are plastic they will need to use the paint that can flex so it wont crack, probably what they use normally just FYI.

thanks for the advise
I'm gonna take a swing at it. I bought some sand paper and plastic primer tonight. Hell, I'll try one, if it don't look great, I'll buy a new one. I'll be sure to post a picture of it when I'm done.

If you spray em, the paint will just crack cuase plastic will flex in the cold and heat. At the shop they add a flex additive to the paint.
