alright guys im new here and to the mustang scene i recently traded my 00 civic si for a 99 gt 5spd with a set of patriot stage3 heads, stage3 clutch, cold air intake, bbk shorty headers, bbk x-pipe, magnaflow mufflers and tips, 4.10 gears, 17inch cobra wheels, steeda gauges, shift knob, pedals, floor mats and i thinks that about all of it...so far the only thing bothering me is the gas mileage isnt very good im getting only about 14-16mpg i believe and i know that the check engine light is on for the o2 but not sure which one and its also saying its running lean because of the heads being on it...just wondering what all could be done to improve on my gas milage somewhat i know its not gonna be the best but i drive 20+ miles to school each day and its killing me lol...i think the first thing i may do is change the gears out and put the stock ones back in and see how much that helps me out...also what numbers do yall think i should be putting down to the rear wheels i was thinking somewhere around 250-260whp thanks

Could be that it needs a tune, did the car come with a tuner? 4.10's doesn't kill gas mileage that bad, so I would not rule them out yet. Does the car have aftermarket cams?
I would say with aftermarket heads and such if you have aftermarket cams as well, you would be pushing the 300rwhp barrier. As far as the O2 sensors, if it is the rear sensors, a tune can turn them off or buy MIL eliminators.

I think the car is going to need a tune as well. I would think a Tune can solve most, if not all those problems. Although I could be wrong. I would think the whole running lean and emissions problems and bad gas mileage can all be related. In the mean time you can get MIL eliminators or if you know the code or get it scanned for free you can double check what esactly is wrong.
I also wouldn't worry about the 4:10 affecting gas mileage too much (a new tune will help here as well). Is your speedo off by any chance?
I also feel your pain - 30+ miles to and from school, 45 mins to an hour travel time on most good days. Luckily it's mostly parkway and major roads. BTW don't get me started on my morning drive errrrr..... (not to hijack the thread either).

you should be able to get 20mpg easy unless you have a wild set of cams in it. As far as rwhp you really need a tune on it (a good one) and you should see some great numbers, should be FAR above 260rwhp... since they are 230 stock.

If you do change out your gears for gas millage, I would stay away from the stock gear and install some 3:55's. But if it was mine I'd keep the 4:10's.

im thinking about getting it tuned if its possible without having to buy a tuner because right now im pretty broke between school and not really having a job...a guy looked at it today and he said that it didnt have the patriot stage three heads on it like the guy i got it from said it did but why else would the check engine light be on and one of the codes be reading running lean? i think hes telling me that because he wants my car pretty bad lol thats just my opinion but im probably wrong
