What do you currently have in your car? Is it just a plain stock radio or do you have a DVD/GPS unit in there already? OR do you even have the Sync system.
For the most part the install is exactly the same as a regular radio.
Brand wise I'd recommend Pioneer.

Then the install will just be like a regular radio, except you will just have to run a separate cable for the GPS and ground a wire to the parking brake for DVD.

i have the shaker 500 system in my car and replaced the head unit with an Eclipse GPS unit. I agree Pioneer is probably the best choice but if its out of your price range look at kenwood they make a good product too. the stock amps will be fine as long as you dont have an aftermarket sub and amp. the stock amps are much more sensitive than aftermarket ones and the levels going to them must be kept lower or they sound horrible. i put a crossover on mine to keep the power levels to the factory amps low and higher to my amp in the trunk

2005-09 Radio Install (How To Guide...)
Kenwood is good product, however I usually recommend Pioneer because their functionality is "out of the box" and you won't need to purchase any additional components. Pioneer also offers a wide variety of included features/uses for each head unit. For instance some Double DIN units have GPS but not DVD, vice versa, etc... Purchasing a higher end (GPS/DVD) Kenwood will probably offer the same functionality I like so much with Pioneer. You will have to compare your radio models to see which one suites you best.
As for using the stock amps you should be fine, just pick up a wiring harness for your car and it should all be plug and play.
You will also have to ground a wire to the parking brake so if you want to watch DVD the brake has to be engaged. Some units need the parking brake also engaged to set new routes on the GPS.

Did you use an aftermarket harness? And does this harness have a square black plug? And did you plug the black harness into the correct square plug?
Yes I do know this and I completely refuse to let people know how to do this.
Newer units are now designed so that these "tricks" can not work.

If there is a wire that must be connected to something for the video to work then there will always be a way to get around it

Yes, by hooking it up to the parking brake, as per the installation instructions. Usually it is the positive side of the parking brake wire.

I'm not the person to argue with when it comes to electronics. I never said I would install someone elses radio like this or advise anyone to do it as it is illegal in some states I just said there will always be a way to bypass any safety feature that requires wiring the radio to something in the car

Yeah nothing personal, just the shops I've worked at have always pissed me off when it comes to this because they look the other way.
Just simpler if you want to bypass it, just install the radio as it was supposed to be installed. The "old method" of doing the opposite of this reached the new radio models and manufacturers included a program in them so the old trick will not work anymore.
The only car I would be willing to bypass is my own, or a best friend's car where I know I'm not getting paid for it.

If you want to install it on your friends' cars go for it, but personally if it's going to be involving me at some step (they ask me to install it, ask me how to install it, ask specifically how to bypass the bake) I will not tell them. Now to sound like a hypocrite, currently if I'm off the books and I can get a job by doing so I MIGHT take it and do it. This is only because I am currently out of work and I can't be in a position to turn away a paycheck. However at the same time so I left the last shop I worked at before the summer started I've only done one DVD install and it was on my best friend's car. I was also called at 12:30am when him and my other friend were trying to get it to work.
I'm assuming somewhere in the software it knows what it is looking for, I found this out on my friend's car. I do know specifically what it looks for, I just don't want to say. I shouldn't say all new models have the extra security but Pioneer does.
But even if the old way worked you still can't use it

Did the speakers work before the new head unit?
Did you plug in the correct wires? The dual DIN setup has two very similar square harnesses, one has 6-pins the other has 8-pins. You want to connect to the 8-pin harness.

You say you're getting a static noise? On what? Radio? CD player? one or the other or both?

And the speakers worked before you replaced the head unit correct?
Don't mind these questions I'm just trying to troubleshoot.

I would check over all your wiring. Nothing from the old audio system should be connected. Does the white static have volume control? It sounds like either the speakers are picking up interference, or the speakers aren't receiving a signal.
Did you connect both the power antenna and the amp turn on wire? Did you try to bypass the amps? Are the amps good? Have you checked the fuses?

Are you sure the radio is good?
The radio, in best circumstances, have a blue and a blue/white wire. More importantly you will want to make sure the blue and blue/white wire on the aftermarket harness going into the car is connected, and wired correctly.

So were the two blue wires propery connected? I don't think '89 had any amps and I'm iffy on saying it also had a power antenna (although the power antenna in this case wouldn't cause the problem).

if you are decent with electronics and wiring you could just hardwire it in but if they are bent on the factory harness then your factory radio shouldnt have worked unless you bent them when installing the new radio
