So I am a really light sleeper and recently my room mate has been snoring LOUD AS SHIT. I have tried hitting him, making a ton of noise myself, everything and the fucker still won't shut the fuck up, he just goes back to sleep and starts snoring again. It pisses me off that his lazy ass gets sleep and doesn't even go to his 9am classes alot of the time while I do, on 2-3 hours of sleep, and I go until 6pm almost every day. If I am lucky he will fail out and I'll get the room to myself. My girlfriend doesn't let me spend the night in her dorm because she "doesn't want to people to get the wrong idea" but I might have to tell her whats up or I am going to be in serious trouble do to lack of sleep. I think I am going to bring my airsoft gun back to school with me after labor day, and whenever he snores shoot him in the nuts, that should teach him real quick. Any of yall have sleeping problems? How do you get to sleep when its not quiet? And I don't want to take sleeping pills......

When it's not quiet..
let me think..
I play Gran Turismo 4. That puts me to sleep in no time.
Sure it's a fun game, but fuck.. having to wait through the bullshit of modifying the car and crap.. then I race on the german crazy ass 10 minute track. That normally gets me so tired and sleepy nothing can wake me up and I fall asleep while playing it. I just play it in bed.
That or if you have a gameboy or something, play a boring game like pokemon.. that did it for me as well.

its hard for me to go to sleep when I am physically doing something. It has to be dark, quiet, and still for me to get to sleep, I am a VERY light sleeper. sometimes listening to music helps, but the battery is dead in my mp3 player

Reading always helps me sleep, books tho, not magazines. Soft playing jazz or Bing Crosby with the book works for me everytime. Speaking of not sleeping, I have not gone to bed yet, nor will I, because I am going up to the island today. I never sleep when I am going to the Island. Its not usually this bad, but I am not driving, so I didn't figure I would even bother trying tonight. I have a five hour drive so I have plenty of time.

I ussually sleep better when I exercise during the day.
I can sleep when it's noisy, i just ignore the noise and fall asleep, I don't have any secret tricks just ignore it. I guess it depends on the person, my wife wakes up if a pin drops.
oh yeah...and wine always makes me sleepy

I think it's funny noone mentioned this.
Try ear plugs. :p
Seriously, whenever I go hunting with my dad I have to bring earplugs to fall asleep with because he snores too loud. It's very hard to just sit in the woods all day on 3 hours of sleep and not doze off.
Either that or get one of those tapes with the nature sounds on it. Crickets, the ocean, running water. They put me to sleep when I'm over my grandma's cause she just likes to have them playing!

yeah i was wondering if anyone was gonna mention ear plugs. that's the obvious solution, especially if you're wanting to avoid sleeping pills. sometimes i take 500mg (i think) of Benadryl and that takes the edge off, but i wouldn't recommend it if you're getting less than 8 hours of sleep. i have to wear ear plugs sometimes cuz my apartment is right next to the pond, and there are loud ass bullfrogs that keep me up all night, but the ear plugs definately work. i'll shut up now.

When I can't sleep, I play a game with myself seeing how long I can keep my eyes closed without opening them. I usually don't open them till the next day.
Airsoft guns work, we used them in our dorm last year for all sorts of things.
