Ignition key spring return on a 71 Mach 1

[71 Mach 1]

I have a problem with my 71 Mach 1 ignition key lock cylinder. It will not spring back to run when you start it, it stays all the way forward. I had to replace the key lock cylinder and now it has no spring return. There are two bent wire/springs in there. They look like they are the size of paper clips. Anyway, if anyone knows how I can fix this, or where I can get newer return springs, I would appreciate the help.

Best bet I can currently think of right now is to check a junk yard. If you can get inside the ignition to replace these (or at least compare them) it might give you a better idea on the cause of malfunctioning at least.

Good thought, if I can find a nearby junk yard with 71-73 Mustang, I will do just that.

my 70 was doing the same thing . they have the same ign. try this pul the steering wheel off and at the top of the colum look as you turm the key back and forth there is the steering wheel lock take that philups screw out and the little medal plate out and try a few drops of lite oil in there see if that helps. there is a shaft in there that when u turn the key that works the ign part way down the colum.
