Painting the Front Grill

I am thinking about painting the front grill on my '03 and I was wondering if it's possible to take the grill off the car. I tried but I noticed that the bottom of the grill is screwed into the body from underneath and I can't reach down there.
Should I just leave it on and make sure to cover the body of the car and put something behind the grill so I don't get paint into the radiator?

I don't know why but a lot of Mustang guys don't like the honeycomb grill, I think it looks good. With that in mind, it means that a lot of guys take off the grill. I'm pretty sure American Muscle has a "how to" on removing it. Also Mustang World has an article about painting the front grill which may be helpful.

Thank you, personally I like the honeycomb grill too but the black part of it is starting to look a little faded and I think the whole thing would look good with an ultra flat black paint. |

you can take it off without the front bumper removal but its probably easier to remove the front bumper.
Remove two two push pins near the headlights (on the part of the bumper that comes up between the headlights and the grill) then two push pins under the front bumper (kinda in the same area under the car). Then remove the screws in the edges of the fenders by the tires.
After that feel where the front fender meets the front bumper (horozontal line) there are two bolts per side, Remove those then pull the sides of the bumper out and then after you slide the headlights off (two pins to pull out behind the headlight then the headlights slide out) the front bumper comes off pretty easy. There are little clips under the headlights you can pull up~ you will see when you remove the headlights.
Thats how to get it off, tape up the paint to keep from scratching.

Here's the video from American Muscle...the beginning of the delete install shows you how to take the stock grille off. I've done it before, it's not too bad, just takes some patience unscrewing the 4 bolts that attach the bottom of the grille. Just be careful bending the front fascia when putting the wrench in there.

Thank you, I think it would be better to take off the grill completely than trying to tape everything off. |

Yes, it would be...plus you can paint both sides of the grille with ease with it off the car.
