Removing the Air Intake Silencer

There's a how-to article on Mustang World about taking out the silencer in the air filter and I was wondering if this can cause any damage. Anybody know?

Before I got my CAI I removed my silencer. At most it sounded better... didn't notice any power gain. It didn't hurt my car at all I drove from VT to FL and back and than around home for a while before I installed my CAI. If it was me I would just save some time and install a CAI.

I removed mine from my factory CAI shortly after I bought the car, and never had any issues. If you don't plan on getting an aftermarket CAI soon, I'd take the silencer out, it won't do any damage to anything. It's basically a big snorkel the ford engineers put in there to suck in cooler air...I personally don't care for it.

its not going to hurt anything but its worthless to do. Save up and buy a cold air intake, leave the silencer where it is. I removed it on my 01 v6 and it didnt do anything.

I removed mine in my old '98 V6 and had 30,000 miles driving without it worry free.
