I changed my oil yesterday at work and found a chunk of a snap ring in the drain pan after the oil change. It's possible that it came from somewhere else. Does anyone know of anywhere in the lower end of a 2000 3.8 that there would be a snap ring about 2" in diameter? I looked through the 3.8 service manual and din't find any but I was just hoping for some conformation.
Thanks,

do you have a picture of this snap ring? If I see it, I can maybe remember where it would go in the engine. The only rings I can think of at the moment are the pistons rings, but those are about 4" across and the little rings in the lifters, but those are about 1" across.

I know it's not the right shape for either one of those. I dont' have a pic yet, but I'll get one on Monday.
