Hello- i have a 92 block 347 stroker 66 mustang coupe with a t5 and a 3:50 locker rear.
My engine seems to have noisy valvetrain and breaks up at high rpms - even though it is balanced and tuned.
i have just added a msd 6a ignition and a rebuilt duraspark distributor to solve the problem. during the process i thought i would check valve springs to see if i had a broken one. I have a summit 285 duration 540 lift cam and trick flow valve spring kit- with correct installed heights.
I discovered the rocker bottom radius is rubbing the radius on the bottom of my comp cams screw in studs by about .040 and has started to gouge stud there because the rocker is too low.
I assume i had some valve sticking due to this and was going to install longer pushrods to compensate.
PROBLEM
..... a longer pushrod would cause my roller tip on my 1.6 comp cams magnum rockers to be well below the centerline of my valve using the marker metheod of checking. They are already a tad lower than i would like.
I am considering adding .080 valve lash tips to my setup. - this would presumably raise the rocker enough to clear the rubbing ( barely ) and should bring the rocker roller closer to the center of the valve.
Is this a legit fix???? i cant afford longer valves and all that work.
Thanks for your great sight here..... Kurt
