Thinking of buying one...

Hi,

Im interested in buying a V6 Mustang. Probably about 96 - 98 with around 80,000/100,000 miles on. Ive got a couple of questions I think you guys might be able to answer.

*What is the 0 - 60 mph speed of the car?
*Are these mustangs knowen for good reliability?
*Are these expensive cars to maintain?
*Do the give any major problems?
*How big is the speed difference between the pre 98 and 99 and up where the HP was boosted to 190hp?
*Are there any body changes during the 90's models?

They're not the fastest but the look the best. There was some headgasket problems in 94 & 95.

Stay away from the 94-early 96 models.... They have bad headgasket problems.

97-98 are your best bet.

94-98 have the same body style 99-2004 changed.

99-2004 def have more power and get up

get an a 99-04 they are not extremly fast but they are faster than some cars out there. very reliable and parts are pretty inexpensive.

94-mid 96 have headgasket issues, after this they have all been very good cars. The only issues I know about them other than this is the Ebrake problem some had, easy to fix just a TSB that you may can get done free of charge.

The cars are very very cheap to fix, brent got a full engine for like 80 bucks with 40k on it.... please take my advice and get a five speed, do not buy an auto... they cost more to fix (manuals can be had for 300 bucks used or 800~ new) and they are faster and far more fun to drive (opinion... but most regret the auto...)


For speed:

0-60 9-10 seconds (stock)
quarter mile 16.5-17.5 seconds
Gas Milage (usually sucks, maybe 25 give or take 3mph)

if you throw on bolt ons and gears you can shave a second off~ (gears are what does it, stock 2.73s suck)

I was getting 32mpg on my 97 before i tore the engine apart, i had a CAI, UDP and a chip at that time. Now I get about 25-26mpg

if your going to get a 96-98 body style get a gt they are pretty cheap especially if your considering on getting a 99-04 v6. the gt's mods are also about 1/2 the price and much easier to come by than v6 performance parts, unless your into the my v6 is quicker than your v8 thing, btw i am one of those people so don't hate. the 96-98 gts are about as fast as the 99-04 v6's, and thats both cars being completely stock. the gt may have a better launch though. it's all up to you though.
