Rebuilt AOD stalls engine in reverse and only has 1st gear

I recently bought a rebuilt transmission that was beefed up with some Alto Red Eagle, and etc parts from a friend of mine who decided to sell it to go with a TKO. I got it installed into mine and when you shift into reverse it stalls and when you put it into drive it doesn't shift out of 1st. The tranny has a stock torque converter and a Stage 2 Shift Kit. My car has a trickflow stage 1 cam in it as well as Edelbrock heads. I don't know if the stalling part has anything to do with that, but the shifting problem I don't know the issue with that. The transmission shop that installed it drove it not very far or very fast.

What year is the transmission from, and what year is the car it went into? I think in '94 and '95 the Mustang used the AODE transmission instead of the AOD and the two are not interchangeable.

It's an AOD and it came from a 90 GT and went into my 91 GT.

Well it definitely sounds like the transmission. I believe the internals are also non interchangeable between AOD/AODE/4R70W. If a shop built it, or installed it, I'd take it back to them to get it checked out. Especially if it's been rebuilt. If someone doesn't know how to rebuild it or makes the slightest mistake it can cause many problems.

It worked when we pulled it from my friends 90 GT. He had it rebuilt by a place that does nothing but performance transmissions. It had less than 100 miles on it. He took it out because he went with a TKO.

Yea I got it to shift finally. The throttle cable was sticking. I do have another problem though. It will almost stall when coming to a stop because it feels like it's not going back down to first or coming out of gear...

edit: I am also driving it with a stock torque converter and a Trick Flow Stage one came lol....I know that needs to change.
