if i am going to put a new cd player in my mustang and i have the mach 460 system, am i going to be taking power away? will i have to buy an amp or anything? i think i have asked a question similar to this one... but i dont really understand why the cd player and receiver are separate.

I wish I could help you. Let me know what you find out I plan on doing some upgrades myself. Sure is nice to see someone else from Kentucky post messages on here. Seems like everyone is from Alabama or Georgia on here. LOL
What you will need is a connector made for the 460 system. Instead of having just one set of wires, it splits off into two connectors, one going to the power side of the harness and the other going to the speaker side. It should work just fine. Any reputable car audio place should have these.

what up, i know i dont have that stereo, but i put a new cd player in my car, and i bought a wire harness from wal mart, and it works fine, come with the splitters to your amp and speakers. it cost under 10
If you don't have the 460 system then you don't have a harness that splits off into your amp. Sorry. No. Not the same.
