Has anyone done a 97' 3.8 to 99' 3.8 engine swap? It jumps from 150 to 190hp. What would I need? I think I would do the motor and 5spd. transmission at the same time. If I did the swap I think I would be ahead of the game when it came time for the SC. Or should I just swap heads and intake from the newer 3.8? If I take this route what else would I need? My current 3.8 has around 81k.

yea the 94-98 v6 really are slow cause they have single port heads, i would think getting a used set of heads (low miles), new gaskets, used lower & upper intake manifolds (port and polish them while there out) would be cheaper than a whole swap but im not 100% positive that you can swap it out, i mean its the same block so i wouldnt see why the hell not but if theres a reason not to one of the veterans or staff will be on here shortly to let you know and give the reason why, on the othere hand i have seen a 99-04 3.8 &3.9 v6s go for little as $400 bucks with only 60,000 miles on them, once again not sure about the transmission cause if you had to swap that out to then im sure it wouldnt be cheaper ......shit idk ..... SPECTOR ,SONICPONY,HERBSTANG, ONE YOUS GUYS HELLLPP LOL.....not tryin to blow sunshine up there ass but all 3 of them usually have really good advice! good luck man ill be checkin this one

Yah Zebs put up some good information. In addition to what he said, you do have a few options.
You could do the single to split port swap. That'll put you around a 99+ 3.8/3.9 hp ratings.
If you have the time, patience, and funds the engine swap is possible. I'm guessing you don't need the car as a dd. As Zebs said, v6 engines are abundant and fairly cheap.
I would consider either the engine swap or at least some upper/lower intake/internals work if you plan to supercharge. At 81k, the engine may have issues after running boost. Hell, an engine with 5k miles could fail or suffer serious problems, any extra unintended stress is fully capable to be a pita.
