Hey all. I have an '89 LX 5.0 Sport. Still have the original 10 hole 15" wheels. I'm thinking about the 16" Pony wheels or the '93 17" Cobra wheels.
The Pony's will fit as-is, but will the Cobra's?
http://www.wheelreplicas.com/93Cobra.html
And then does anyone know what tire sizes will fit?
I'm thinking 245/50-16's or 255/50-16's for the 16" rims. Haven't gotten far enough to think about the 17"s yet.
Thanks !

my friend has 17x9 rims on the front and back of his 90 model mustang. He has 255/40/17s up front and 275/40/17s out back, the front is a little low on the sidewall but he doesnt have any issues. The 93 cobra rim is a 7 or 7.5 wide cant remember and it sticks in a bit more to keep the tires from hitting the front fender edges.
just make sure the overall diameter is ok for your speedometer

Brandon- I love you. Thanks for the quick response. There's a set of Pony rims on eBay now with tires, but I think I kind of want the Cobra rims. They are 8.5" wide. The black ones will go great with my black 'Stang. THANKS !!

you forget im all powerful ^
you can run a 17 by 8 99 up GT or cobra rim with out alot of hassel either, sure you may have some steering limitations but in the end its far worth it.
Even on my car with my 17 by 9s i will rub the tires a bit with my drop but its not bad.

Ahh, but I'm stuck with 4 bolt wheels, right? I like how yours stick out the fenders in the back.

Another question: If I think I've settled on 17" wheels and 245/45-17's tires, how do I know what to set the pressure at?

my friend upgraded his fox to 5 lug and has 03 cobras looks really good on his hatchback. You can get some 94-95 front spindles and a new bushing on em for the front upgrade to 5 lug, for the rear you will have to buy a kit though.

I'm the one SpectorV's talking about w/ the 03 Cobra wheels. If you want to stick with four lug, your options are pretty limited. The offset on the factory Cobra wheels is a little different than the non-Cobra models. However, I think that some of the aftermarket companies do make reproduction 93 Cobra wheels with the offset necessary to work correctly on a non-Cobra car. Another option you may be interested in is a set of 17x8 pony wheels from www.ponyr.com.
If you go 5 lug, you have all kind of options, from every 94-04 factory wheel to all sorts of aftermarket wheels. All you need for the rear is a 5-lug axle kit (about $200). The front is the tricky part. You need a set of 94-95 front spindles, 94+ brakes (I'd recommend the 99-04 PBRs) and a few other miscellaneous parts. If you have the ability to do all the work yourself, the cost of the parts is well worth it. But I'd hate to know how much a local shop would charge you for labor if you don't...

jegs has kits for converting to 5lug..300-400 for front and back still drum rear, the parts are basically lincoln parts...you can piece together a 5lug swap together if you really wanted to.

93 cobra wheels are 17x8's... not 17x7/7.5
I do know 93 cobras came with 245/45/17s tires
(i think)
