I know this isn't what your asking for but I'd really recommend forgetting the 8.8 and get a Detroit True Trac T-lock for the 7.5, it'll be stronger than an 8.8 and cost less.

it will be stronger how much does it cost and will my car still be right wheel only or does the Detroit True Trac-lok make them both burn out

How can a 7.5 be stronger than an 8.8 by adding only a truetrac?

Why do you want to put a locker in your car???? I am sure he wants to take this on the road as a daily driver. A locker is terrible idea for a daily driven car.
And it's the spider gears that break most often. However, it can break the pinion gear and warp the pumpkin too if you have some power. It all depends on what he wants to do w/ the car. I know when I was in the 13s, I needed an 8.8. But I also had an auto with 4.10s, torque converter, shift kit and slicks to put it down to the ground. And I would spray nitrous off the line. Fun times and 1.7-1.8 60' times too

Your spider gears are what break, and your spider gears are still 7.5" (As Monkey has said)

Sorry I keep using the wrong terminology, it's an LSD, not a locker. Just puts power to both wheels, but it's the strongest you can buy regardless of whether you believe it's stronger tha the 8.8 or not. Read the thread for arguements on both sides and decide for yourself.

The diff. may just be stronger but the diff. is not the main thing breaking in the 7.5. The spyder gears are usually the first thing to go.

It has been proven that the 7.5 can take a good amount of punishment, but if your going to put posi in your 7.5 and your trully worried about strength, an 8.8 will always be stronger.
I think the 8.8 and the 7.5 use the same axles too right? 28 spline?

The 7.5 can support atleast 250 maybe more. When you have slicks and try to hook up is when they start to break, i.e. the spider gears strip/explode.

Wait what. What do you mean? That the line is blurry as to when they will break?
