I got the GT40's yesterday, and there are no smog holes in the back of the heads.I still have the smog equipment hooked up.The car is an '88 T-Bird with a 5.0 H.O.,Explorer intake. When I install the GT40's,do I just toss out all of the smog equipment?Do I keep the EGR valve on the spacer hooked up/plugged in?Can I toss out the smog pump, smog lines on the passenger side of the engine and smag tube to the H-Pipe?I obviously won't be using the tube that runs from one head to the next in the back of the engine.Where do I go from here with this project????

Everything that had to do with the smog pump on my car is gone from the previous owner so Im assuming you wont need that either. There was a little pump looking thing sitting in the back of my engine compartment that I had no clue what it was for. I kept asking people and eventually someone said it was form the removed smog equipment... just leftover nonesense.

10-4.I'm aquiring the rest of my needs before I get started (gasket set, plugs, new plug wires, etc).I want my 'bird to be a strong runner (already is,but more power can't hurt),yet look factory. When I make any mods,I try to keep them clean and use Ford bits and pieces.

I got the GT40's,not the "P" heads. They are still a major improvement over what I have.I ended up trading a set of E7 heads and 2 intake manifolds for them.He was asking $100 if I pulled them myself (no problem). They only have 23,000 miles on them, and they are CLEEEEEEAN.I'm not in a hurry to swap them.I'll take my time and, like I said, acquire my parts and get my plan together for the A/C removal, and smog equipment removal, belt routing, etc.I want to be ready. No surprises (at least no big surprises).I'm watching for a good set of headers on E-Bay,along with a couple of other items.

Sounds good man, it's good to see people taking their times and planning out their mods to make sure it works right the first time and looks good!

Yep,I agree. It sucks jumping into it and having to spend most of your day jumping back and forth to the parts store for little items.I want everything ready to go,so I can spend a few hours doing the swap, and still have time in my day to drive it and enjoy the new horsepower.

hey man.. the gt40s are okay.. mine aren't Ps either.. and my car ran a 12.8@107 with these.. (fully ported/honed however, with larger valves installed..) and I'm hoping it will flow enough air for my 331..

I've got to be careful,I have flat top pistons.I'll leave the valves as they are.Porting, now that's another story.I may do a little porting and polishing.

Well,a tiny update.Since my last post on this subject,I have got a new fuel pump,65mm throttlebody and spacer,1 5/8 shorties,A/C eliminator (I installed that),and now I'm having some worries. Will the GT40 heads work with my flat top pistons????I hear "Yes',and I hear "No".I can't seem to find a defineative answer.I plan on keeping the factory cam.Any ideas?

Thanks Montecitan.I am getting closer to the swap eveyday.I got my new fuel pump and TPS,I've got the heads,65mm t-body and spacer,1 5/8 shorties, and hopefully VERY quick,I'll have an off road h-pipe.All of those parts are literally sitting on my workbench.I'd like to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. One piece at a time, though.

No matter what cam you decide to go with, always check PTV clearance yourself when you assemble the motor. Every motor is built ever so slightly different. What clears on one may not clear on another.
Either way, good luck with the build.

Thanks a lot guys.I'll do a PTV chack just in case.I'd hate to shell out my engine after going through what I have just to get it and associated parts for it.
