2006 V6 Manual Trans - Bucks in 1st Gear in AM

In the mornings, when I first start my 2006 V6 manual tranny, it bucks in 1st gear and a bit less so in 2nd. I would imagine onlookers think I cannot drive a stick shift. The dealer says "this is how they all are" and tells me to "just warm it up in the mornings". Well, this is not acceptable to me.

Anyone else have this problem? Does this also effect V8's?

Once the engine is sufficiently warm, the bucking goes away, but to my mind this should never happen. The mornings here in OC Calif these days are high 50's, low 60's.

My Honda's with fuel injection never do this...I start them cold and drive off, no bucking, etc.

Is this bucking acceptable? IMHO, I think not.

its probably the clutch cable, its cold and thus shrinks so you are used to driving it when its normal and warm, expaned and longer. When you drive it while cold it will release faster, thus causing it to engage to fast and you get a bucking.

that may be one explanation, the other may be the idle bypass valve, it can get stuck when cold... but I dont see it causing this.

i get this also, the first few take-offs the clutch will sort of "skip" a few times while you ride it out, like its cold and isnt grabbing, makes the car buck a little bit. it does it when i get to the end of my street, and the first stop sign before i hit the country, after that, its fine. but its not just in 1st though, itll skip when going into 2nd and 3rd, but by the time im out of my neighborhood, its warmed up.

i wouldnt worry about it too much. its cause its a mustang, its going to be more rough and rugged than the honduh your used to. its just what comes with the territory.

thats true, really cold weather hurts the friction of the clutch disk.... so that could also be part of it if its REALLY cold where you are

Well, I doubt the problem is the clutch, at least in my case. It seems to be the programming of the chip that controls the feed of gasoline? It seems that this problem effects more then a few v6's and perhaps v8's too. I am very turned off to Ford for having this "hey, get over it" attitude, at least thats what I get from a few dealers here in OC Calif. I have a hard time accepting this "hey it's a Mustang, it's supposed to be a little rough" explanation. The car should be like most others in this regard....one should be able to start it stone cold, and because it has fuel-injection, it should just drive wonderfully from the get-go. Most other cars do this, so why not the Ford? Ford is not new to Fuel-Injection, so why is this happening? Perhaps I'll never know....once warmed up, it does run just fine, shifts smooth as silk, etc. Perhaps coming from mostly Japanese products, I have developed too high a level of expectations? For the $$ one pays for the V6, it should not do this.

If it goes away 60 sec after start up then its most likely the cold start spark retard, necessary to heat up the cats to meat ULEV-II. An aftermarket SCT Tune by a tuner who knows how to fix this issue is an option.

if you know that this "problem" effected other cars, what did the other people do to solve the problem?

every car needs to warm up properly anyways. just because it's fuel injeted doesn't make it a special case.

Most of the 01-04 V6s and GTs also have cold spark start retard that may cause the same type of issue.

Dont forget the tranny fluid needs time to warm up to facilitate the gear changes.
