Hey, can someone give me a breakdown, technically about the differences betwenn the engine and performance of a 99 Grand Prix GT and a 2002 V6 mustang? A bunch of my buddies and I are messing with one of my friends that has a 99 Grand Prix GT and some comparative specs and a quic breakdown would be awesome! Plus, I wanna know for my knowledge, 'cause once the snow is all gone and the roads are nice, I guarentee this guy wants to race me and I wanna make sure I can beat him with my mods and whatnot, lol. heh.
So all you technically inclined guys, help!!
Also....SC or Turbo?

a list of your mods and his mods would be very helpful in determinning your odds of winning a heads up race, especially if yours is a manual or auto. and are you sure you want to get into sc or turbo talk cause if you do this post is going to explode with comments. in the end it's all personal preference.

I believe that there is a special edition Grand Prix GT that is Supercharged, or else a year, but I'm not sure of which.
Back when I had my car running I raced a Grand Prix from a stop and edged him out by a couple lengths after 3rd gear. Of course I had better gearing, a 2 door, and some engine mods. I think this one was stock.

The grand prix GT comes with gm's version of the 3.8 v6, called the 3800. The GTP is the supercharged version, but apparently he doesn't have that. To be honest, the car is heavier, you should be able to take him theoretically. You also have RWD over him, FWD just won't do a launch justice. Your engine is also a 3.8 V6, GM's motor is a little more powerful in my personal experiences, but his car is heavier. Also, do you have a 5 speed or auto.

Exactly, the GTP is the superchared version. The normal GT is n/a and should be a close race.

my girlfriend has a 99 GT 3.8 (N/A) its nice and all, FWD..... stock they put out less hp/tq, at least in 99. I cant remember the EXACT number so i wont guess.
When driving they feel modestly quick for what they are... but it wont even come close to my car. My friend had a 99 with basic mods and managed a 10.0 in the 8th mile~
Tell your friend that those cars have tranny issues ALOT and to get it checked if it starts shuttering or slipping ASAP. GM can run a diagnostic on it and determine if a couple sylinoids are bad, as was my GF's case. After those were fixed... and 500 bucks went by... the car ran great and is still running great.
Alot of them never have this done and are out a 2k tranny... so keep an eye on it.

Wow, u just practically named my mods, and I'm running 15.0s before the Steeda Tri Ax. I think you could take him. I'm running like 9.5 1/8 miles. So It might be close but I think you'll edge himout.

if you get him out of the hole, itll be a given, especially with those mods.
from a roll, itll be closer but youll still prevail.
