Does the PATS Still allow the engine to crank over, or does it deactivate everything.

Does anyone know for a fact if a 2003 V-6 3.8 L Engine harness is not compatable with a 2001 mustang V-6 3.8L Computer. I know for a fact that all the harness plugs matched and plugged right in. Ford tells us that some of the wiring may be different on the 2003 harness, causing the engine not to run. I did the swap and the theft light is flashing with the ignition off, the service engine light is on, the engine turns over good, trys to fire, builds fuel pressure, but will not fire and run. Already tried the magic red reset for the fuel pump (didnt work as I expected) Please need some Tech Help. Before I try any thing else.

Ford says I need to buy a 2003 computer, I thought I might try swaping the wiring harnesses. Put the 2001 Harness on the 2003 engine. Or maybe pull the engine and just use the long block with all the 2001 components, intake, wiring etc. Ford also says a new computer is $1500 and would take lots of programing to make it work.

all 01-04 should be the same
PATS just doesn't let injectors fire, the engine will still turn over

Do you believe that swapping the wiring harnesses over (put the 2001 harness on the 2003 engine) will correct the problems. This way the harness will be 2001 the computer will be 2001, just the engine will be 2003.

One ford guy says that the pin out put is different on the o2 sensors and that the 2003 engine is tuned alittle differently. And thats why it will not run. I am afraid that if I put in a 2003 computer that it will not read the instrument cluster OK, still giving me the same problem with the PATS

Thanks JUSTIN00STANG You the man, you helped us out so much. You were right go back to the basics and check fuel, spark, grounds, all harnesses ETC... Within 5 mins we pulled the plugs and spun er over and found that fuel was only coming out of 2 cylinders. We pulled the top intake and the injectors and found 4 out of the 6 were plugged with bad gas. I guess the 03 motor has been sitting for awhile. replaced the injectors with the ones off the 01 motor and she fired right up and was running great. No check engine lights and no leaks anywhere.
The only problem now is the car has no heat, the thermostat is opening but the water pump does not seem to be moving water. Belt is on right, So I believe we have air in the system. Tomorrow we will try and bleed the coolant system better. We did open the bleeder on top, got some air out. But still must be more. Thanks again, you saved us a million......................

Thanks Brent, this forum has been great. Let me know if you have any tips on my cooling problem, like is there a trick to figuring out if the water pump is bad.

Cool.
Open the bleeder with it running until you get a stream of coolant running out.
You may have to do it several times. Also make sure the heater is turned on while doing this.
