You don't need an install kit. All you need is a wiring harness to connect from the new cd player to your factory harness. I believe this is the harness you will need if you have the 460 system: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ixIdXXv...00&I=120705700.
Probably the easiest thing to do, if you're located in a town with any stereo shops, just go in, ask for a harness for a 99 mustang with the 460 system, they should hook you right up.
Since you have a 99, you have the dual din setup. You have a tape player/radio in the top, and a cd player in the bottom. Most ppl take out both and put a little panel over the bottom one (known here as a zim panel) and install the new unit in the top one. Just letting ya know.
You will put the new cd player sleeve in the old slot, after pulling the old unit out using stereo "keys". You can get these from wal mart, little u-shaped metal pieces. Put those in the holes on either side, push outward, and cuss it out profusely until the unit comes out. About the easiest way to describe it. Then, the new sleeve will slide right in, use a small screwdriver and bend down the tabs on the new sleeve to where it is snug in place.

well you learn something new everyday... good thing you told me that. So there isnt anything they make to put in the bottom slot to have like a shelf type thing that you would have in the other years?

I believe you can find a little cubby hole from somewhere for it. And I believe it was Zim from this site who used to make panels to go over those parts...I dunno. Just go ask your local stereo shop if you have one around there. Before you open anything, make your your wiring harness has enough connectors for everything you are gonna have to hook up.

Nah, not gonna be hard at all. Just hook your harnesses together beforehand, always makes it go easier. The hardest part is pulling the old one out, I don't think I've ever found one that works right...

one more question about all of this and then ill shut up (hopefully). can i get just any cd player to work with it? or do i have to have preamp outputs or any other special requirements? im guessing the harness covers the whole preamp output thing but i dont know for sure. thanks a lot

A normal aftermarket cd player will get the job done. I run full preamps with my eclipse unit, but that's because I have aftermarket amps on everything. When I installed the 460 unit in my car, I used the factory amp setup and it worked fine.
But back to your question, you really have no need for preamps at all, unless you are looking at subs, then you will want a sub out. But, if you are looking to upgrade to new speakers in the future, you should look into getting a cd player with good preamps..or just wait until you want to do that and get the top of the line. If you're like me, you have to stay on top of technology, so...pretty much I build a system, enjoy it for a few months, then pull it all out and start over again lol. I'm almost done with this system, time for a little enjoyment, then some fun starting over.

lol yeah im not that die hard about it, so this will probably stay until it breaks, along with the speakers. actually, the main reason i am getting the new cd player is because i want one with an aux input so i can play my ipod through it. if i get new speakers, i will just probably try to find exact replacements. oh by the way, i went to crutchfield and they told me this is what i need to still use my factory speakers and amps.... seem right? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-eiuysPk...K5&i=142C4FDK5
