what would be the major differences between short tube and long tube headers, i was the one that started the 2000 vs 2005 mustang, but was looking into headers since i got my exhaust today.

Headers won't do much more that change the sound on a stock engine. Shorty headers are useless on 94-98 cause theyre stockers already flow nice. If you want to do headers get long tubes. You might feel a small gain and it will change your exhaust tone aswell.
Really dont need them until you do heads/cam/intakes.

a little caution on long tubes though. i have mac lt's and they hang too low. poorly designed, i guess... take a speed bump too fast and say goodbye to your exhaust

Yeah... i got headers without really looking into it. now i wish i would have put that $200 into something else, since i only have exhaust and CAI it doesnt really do too much.
And yes, MAC doesnt really make things that well... both my exhaust and headers are MAC. My exhaust (the muffler on the passenger side and the part of the pipe that runs out behind it) hangs too low. When i go into my driveway it rubs sometimes... really annoying. I guess the next exhaust will just have to be custom made... not a crappy bolt on

if you get long tubes you are also going to have to get an H pipe or something similar w/ new cats (unless you already did this with your new exhaust), but they will give you better performance, as long as you dont hit them on something. with shorty headers you dont have to worry about the cats, but you probably dont get as good of performance.
So yes, based on performance, i would get the long tube headers

H pipes are supposedly illegal in most states (or off road use only), but he could probably have something custom made with a some cats... i dont know how legal that is though

alright i got the gt take off, but dont really want to spend the money right now to get it welded up, but will in a week, i want to put it up, but have no clue where to start. should i cut off the old, and then place it up, or connect the two pipes that were cut when shipped then put in. Lie ive said before very new with the exhaust on this car, just looking for some imput on where to start. im gonna go check to see how much it would cost me to have it welded up with hangers n all, so if its less than 70 im all for it, but just wanted to get an outside perception on it before i start cutting up the exhaust. I do know i will need to extend the pipe after the cats to the gt take offs to clear the suspension, other than that i see no problem seeing the first way then have it welded up once done.

Ok, what you are gonna want to do is:
Find a good reputable exhaust shop.
Tell them you have a dual exhaust system you want put on.
Tell them you want to have your y-pipe cut before it starts to bend in, and pipes welded running from the new exhaust to your now cut y-pipe. Hence giving you a dual exhaust system with no crossover pipe.
Then, you'll want them to hook the hangers up for the rest of the exhaust.
You should look to spend around 100 bucks...and it's never a bad thing to tip your exhaust guy, never know when you'll need something done.

On a stock or bolt on car I would do duals and thats it, leaving the stock cats, maybe hollow out the front cats if you are adventureous.
The shorties will get you a few HP, but the LTs are overkill for a stock HCI car I think.
