Emissions and LT headers

Just have a quick question on why you can't pass emissions in CA and maybe other states if you have long tube headers.
Is it because all the hydrocarbons don't get burned properly with the LT's?

it's a Bar worthy topic. so was my question about a market for custom LT's.
None of it had to do with performance. just a simple question on emissions, not V6 engine tech.

it wont pass visual in cali. it doesnt do jack shit to the actual emissions coming out of the tailpipe.
i think bbk shorty headers ARE cali legal though, i heard that a few times that they are the only headers with carb legal stickers. i think jba is also pending for carb legalness.
of course, none of this shit will bother you if you can find a hook up in your area for smog.

I was just messing around. I put it in here because it has tech worthy information in it for someone that wants to know the same thing you do  It's much easier to find this thread in this forum than in the Bar. |

Hm...I'd have to say b/c cali doesn't want you doing anything to your car period. They expect everyone to buy it, never touch it, and just drive. Kinda like my dad lol. I say..it's my car, I'll do to it what I feel fit. But nah, it's mainly a visual thing. If you could find a set of lt's that have a carb sticker...you'd be set. But, I dunno if that's possible.

It's against federal law to move the catalytic converters. Since, with long tubes, your cats won't be in the stock location you can't pass inspection with 'em.

Even if you have cats with the LTs, the cats will be farther away from the motor and take longer to heat up. Therefore your car will produce more emissions when its cold.
