So as you all know by now i'm a huge ford fan. Going back and forth between the ranger and mustang lol. Anyway me and the gf will be getting married sometime in the next year or so and probably within a year or 2 from that be starting a family. Now here's the thing we will need a family vehicle. Now here dad works for GM as well as her two grandfathers(both retired with an awesome plan) so come around that time we will be looking into a new car, truck. suv ect..So i'd prefer to stay with a ford, but being that we will be able to get employee pricing its making my highly consider a GM of some kind. Maybe upgrade my truck to a silverado or something like that or we have even talked about trading my truck in for her to get a car(she would pay for it) then let me get an older mustang to drive and toy with(btw i'd still have the probe for a dd) now with that option it would let me get another mustang(either a fox or an sn95 gt/cobra) something cheap, but it decent shape. However a big part of me doesn't want to get rid of the ranger is if you were in my spot(i know your going to automatically say mustang, but imagin the ranger was yours and you loved it like it was your stang) what would you do? My truck would also only have like a year-2 till its paid off by the time this will come around. Which is another thing to really consider.
Please no jokes on this thread. I'm trying to look at the future for my soon to be wife/family. I know sometimes in life you have to grow up and sacrifice things for the ones you love. So please take this thread seriously.

on getting a family goin, it sounds like you really like her man.
ford is also doing employee pricing as well now, so maybe a explorer or expedition is in your future. but the newer gm trucks/suv's are nice as well, my parents just picked up a 06 tahoe, 4wd, 5.3l i believe they are now. very smooth vehicle, its so easy to drive, it feels like a small car the way it handles and moves. i love driving it, and if i start a family, id love to steal it from them
btw what does she drive now? you can both sell your cars(she sell hers, you sell the ranger) and get the family car which usually the wife drives. then get a older car that you want. or unless you dont want to get rid of the ranger, id say keep it, cause you know you love it. keep the ranger and save up for a weekend car for you after a while. remember, youre young, you can still be married without kids for a few years and have fun just the 2 of you, cause for the next 20 years or more after kids, youre fukked. thats what my parents did, they had a camaro that my dad did lots of shit to(though strangely my mom drove it the most), they got a house and did alot of fun things before finally popping me out, moving to the cheaper homes in the valley, and selling their nice cars for a minivan and daily commuter. it wasnt until recently did we start to have nice cars again, since there were no more kids to barf and spill on the interior and such, scratch the paint with the bikes, etc.

If you only have a year left on payments keep the ranger & look for a family car when the time comes for that, are you in school or working ??? If your working & can get a part time job save that money in a 2nd car fund

She has a 94 corsica that is getting close to its last leg. She might be getting a 95 taurus in jan from her dad thats in a bit better shape. It will have a rebuilt tranny, but with how ofter we go up to TN the miles will add up pretty quick. However i'd prefer to have something that isn't almost 15 years old to drive my kids around when the time comes. She hates suv's with a passion which sucks lol. So we might get her a minivan. I'd hate to get rid of the truck if its so close to being paid off. So we might just keep the truck. It never hurts to have a truck around anyway. I do want to pick up a older 5.0 down the line anyway. So things might work out to where I keep the truck, get my 5.0 and have a nice safe vehicle for the kids to ride in. I'm going to try my hardest to avoid a minivan I hate them lol. I had to drive one for a year+ give in had some get up and go(3.8 with 200hp and 250+tq) but its still a mini van lol.
For the record though I do love her more then anything. I love my truck, but i'd give it up for her in a heartbeat. Same goes for any mustang.
Thats what I was thinking. I plan on going to tech school and going for a paint/body specialist. So I know there is good money in that, but that is even a little ways down the line unfortunately.

well, since she hates suv's my thoughts may not help. My brother and his wife have a 03 trailblazer 4x4 she drives. it is a nice vehicle and i don't like the gm products drive, but this one is alright. it has the I-6, decent power (pulled my bronco over 30 miles and pulled well). my brother would have rather had the small 8 (don't know which one, don't pay my attention to gm stuff). So anyway, just my thoughts...
*edit: oh, and goodluck with the starting of the family and congrats!!!

Thanks. I like the trailblazers unfortunately though they are too expensive even with the employee pricing. So if we do go about it it'll probably be a cobalt or a malibu.

personally i would say keep the ranger. you are close to paying it off. why go into another car payments as a new family. especially if you are going to have to get with wife a car. be pretty stupid to jump into two payments to have on top of other bills that are associated with just getting married. it is a good little truck and it will serve its purpose.
i would just look for a cheap project car and use the ranger as a DD and find a stang or a 4x4 F-150/Bronco to build up on the weekends to play with

We would end up with only 1 car payment. I'd save up to buy the stang. However the corsica might be going and us getting a 95 taurus. If that happens i'd be willing to trade the ranger in for a nice little econemy family car. Payments would be a lot lower then the ranger. I'd probably start driving the taurus and then sell the probe and buy a 5.0 to tinker with. Then when i'm and a happy point with the stang look into a bronco. I've always wanted a fullsize bronco. Not to mention my gf has never had a new nice car so I kinda of want to let her experiance what its like. It would actually end up saving money. Not to mention we could probably get a basic cobalt for around 10k new if her grandfather was to use his discount.

keep the ranger for now, but when the time comes, the GM line of SUVs are NICE and the employee discount really knocks alot off of the price. I have been in love with them since my mom get her buick rainier (a step up from the envoy denali, and a step down from the saab 9-7x). They are really nice trucks. The auto load-leveling air ride is a great option in the saab and buick.

Suzuki is a part of gm, and they are already cheap. Check out thier line, the forenza wagon my mom has is a pretty good car, as well as my reno. Good room in the back. And have you considered a certified pre owned vehicel? I dont think it is necessarily a good idea to get a brand new car right after you are married or are starting to have kids. A taurus in good shape is a fine family car, and if you sell the probe and the taurus, you could get something a little nicer, and not finance much. In your situation, I would keep the truck and pay it off ASAP, sell the probe and whatever car she has, and buy a nice, cheap, 4 door sedan to drive, used, of course. Then, once the truck is paid off, you will have a small monthley payment, if any at all. Then all your money can go in the bank for when you have kids. IMO a tinkering car would be out of the question until after the kid was born and in school, but thats just me

Dude, u are worring waaaaay ahead of time for this. I have been married to my girl for almost 6 years, we have a 2 year old, and we just got a "family car" three months ago. We used to swap the baby's car seat between her sentra and my stang, yeah the baby's seat fits back there, kind off. What I'm trying to say is, enjoy the moment man, enjoy your engagement, enjoy your life as a married couple. When the time comes for kids, I'm sure you'll figure out what to do with the cars.

I would do my best to have to vehicles and thats it for a while, I would also not jump into a brand new car, get a used one. That alone will save you tons. Then after a bit you can get a tinker toy to modify.

best advice yet, a brand new car wouldnt be very smart, you can get something just as good for much cheaper, as soon as you drive that new car off the lot you lose a lot of money, money that could be saved for you 5 point oh

I'd say keep the truck...and sell whatever she's driving at the time and the probe and buy a nice nearly new car. No need to have extra vehicles starting a family..esp if they involve more monthly payments.
