I have an 2000 Mustang coupe, and my car drives fine but the bettery light keeps flashing at low rpms and at higher rpms it stays on. if I turn on the lights or any air for that matter, the volst start tumbling down. let me put it this way, it took about 5 miles from my car being jumped until it started to die out and when it started to i would turn the lights off and the car would keep running, turn them on the car would want to stall. could this be a loose ground wire or could it be a bad alternator? if its an alternator would an alternator from a 1994 Mercury cougar 3.8, fit into my car. it appears it would fit, just wanted to get conformation..

Sounds like an alternator has gone bad. From the sound of it, the alternator is simply putting out just enough voltage to keep your car running and keep the eec system alive.
Once you turn the headlights on, the voltage is dropping down to the point where your eec system wont stay powered up. ( if I remember correctly, that cut-off point is about 9.5 volts)

As far as the other alternator fitting, if the connectors are the same, and they bolt up the same, you would be fine.

it was the alternator, and for everyones reference for all v6rs......any alternator from a v6 from a 3.8 will bolt up from 94 - 2005, so if anyone needs a alternator and are just looking for a mustang, look in the cougars, thunderbirds, mark vII, there could be more, but i just found this little information out and i thought everyone could use it, but if everyone knew this already, its just another unwanted post...im gonna write a novel..i should of noticed to change the alternator in the first place....when ever i reached high rpms the battery light would come on, and since ive put this alternator in, it has not come on, or i just simply didnt see it....ok thats enough now
