I've got an evo and i'm in the market for a cobra.
evo is running approx. 380lbs/ft torque.. but i love the look sound and fun-ness of the cobra.. it's too appealing.. must take one for a test drive

its an amazing test drive (at least the 03/04's are as they put down 370rqhp/370rwtq~ stock (some as high as 390/390) and you have THAT much tq at VERY low rpms.

the 00 models are fine, the 99s are to minus the fix, if they have it you are good. The only cobra issues ive heard are from the 96 model dealing with the radiator and some of the 03/04 head tick, etc

GT500 will be overpriced, it will take forever before they come down from dealer price raising. And if you have 60k to throw around... save a bit more and buy a new z06

i'd go EVO simply cuz im AWD biased and i'd want something that is more balanced off the shelf without having to mod it.

My friend has an evo and while it's pretty fast it's no cobra! His car runs in the low13's with an exhaust, intake and chip while the 03-04 cobra is a 12sec. car stock w/ much room for improvement! For less than 2k you can have a low 11sec. car! Try doin that w/ an evo! Don't forget, you're comparing a turbo 4 to a supercharged 8! The cobra will easily make 900hp w/ a good twin turbo setup and proper tuning,on the stock short block nonetheless!PLUS IT'S A MUSTANG!!!

but still get the cobra

the driver gasket

Look..its very simple...Evo's are gorgeous rare breed cars that every one drools over ...so are the mustangs but in the end...Mustangs have the heritage. Go for the Cobra..you won't be dissapointed!!! hey better yet
look at my other thread and check out the cobra I am looking at buying!!!
I love that car and wished it wasn't Vert!!!! Okay let us know what you decide!!!

after test driving a Evo, the only reason id buy one is because its a 4g63 and basically a DSM with a warranty, and the same basic modding rules apply, rules i know like the back of my hand.
id rather spend 30k on a used 03/04 cobra over a new Evo though. cobras 100hp more, and with under 1000$ you can see close to 500hp and have a ultimately fun drive to work everyday.

I sell mitsubishi's in St.louis and the only Mustang that was traded in on an EVO is the one sitting in my driveway. I know its not a cobra but still a GT.
He traded it in b/c his wife was pregnant and he still wanted something hard. Drove it for about a year and a half, traded it in on a GTO (mistake) now he wants to trade in the goat for a 2006 EVOIX but that pontiac aint worth crap.
EVO VS COBRA like APPLES VS ORANGES
it just depends if you want handling or brute strength. there is the exclusivity factor of both. If I could have afforded a new EVO 3 years ago thats what I would have had. But i cant tell you if id still be driving it like my stang and loving every minute of it

yeah i am quoting myself, because i have also driven a 03 cobra, and trust me, a Terminator owns the Evo in every way but first gear, which even wouldnt be that bad cause once second gear is reached, its over for the Evo.
