So I just got my fat paycheck in and now im throwing the money toward some chrome FR500 rims. Question is, i have a black 2000 mustang 3.8L. The set of rims I've decided upon are 17x9's in the front, and 17x10.5's in the back. I have heard that they should fit like a glove, and shouldn't exceed the wheel well. Cause I don't want my 'stang to look like a camaro with the rims hanging 3 inches outside the car. Second thing is I dunno what size I should put on the 17x10.5s. 315's or 275's or 265's.

On the 9's, I would run a 265 at the least, and on the 10.5's, I'd run a 315

what is the profile difference of a 265 and a 245... cuz i was leaning more toward 245's. but yea i figured 315's on the rear.

The 245's on the front will almost be sitting inside the wheel. And if you even get close to a curb, it's gonna eat up your rims. Like I say, I'd recommend at least a 265 on the front with 9 inch wheels. If it was me, I'd spend the extra few bucks and run 275's.

the "tallness" of the tire won't change unless you change the middle number (45) of the tire size..

and seeing my 275's on a 9.5" wheel, i'd recommend 265's for a 9"...245 is too small for sure

245 is the width of a tire. 245 mm versus 265 mm. The 265 is just a wider tire. If you run a 245 on the front, I just believe it will look weird and leave too much of a chance for messing a rim up.

Does it seem that having 10.5's on the back is nice? will i notice a major difference in performance? normal driving?

10.5's on the back of a stock/near stock v6 is just for looks if anything. You will actually be turning more rubber, hence theoretically slowing you down. But...I can almost guarantee you won't be able to spin off the line running a tire like that.

Run 275s in the front for a 9" rim, and non nitto 315s in the back on the 10.5" rim. the nitto 315s are narrower than a standard 315 and will look like ass.

To figure out the height/profile of a tire, there is a formula. The height of the sidewall is the first number times the second number as a percent. If you have a 275 35 R17 tire, you would take 275 and multiply it by 35%...that will give you the sidewall height in millimeters. So, a 275 will give you a sidewall height of 96.25 mm, or roughly 3.85". A 265 35 will give you a sidewall height of 92.75 mm, or roughly 3.71". As you can see, there really is no noticible difference unless you can see a 0.14" size difference.

As for benefits of getting the massive meats in the back, there will be no real performance gains. As brad said, you will probably slow down a bit as you will be turning a lot more standing weight from the larger tire as well as the larger rim. You will, however, gain all the traction you will ever need in near stock form. The odds of breaking loose are slim to none, unless it is cold out and your tire is wet.

None the less, go with 275s in the front and 315s in the back. Those are the same specs I am running on my car. The fronts are 17x9 rims, and the 275s fit just right. A 265 will be too thin and not look as good and risk curb rash. The backs are 17x9 rims as well, with a 315 nitton on them. It works because of the width difference with nittos. A BFG or mickey tompson will fit the 10.5" rim as a 315...the nittos won't.

In all honesty though, I think you should save yourself some money and get 17x9 rims all the way around. Then you can still run a 315 if you choose (nitto) or get the 275s or 285s for a slightly wider look. This will let you rotate your tires (assuming 275s all around) and save some money on rims and tires. The only 315s I think you will find will be in a drag radial, but I could be wrong as I have only look for DRs in that size in the past.

well first off if you stagger tire sizes you cant rotate, of course, but you will have issues if you do not stay ON TOP of the alignment. I wouldnt stagger but thats just my opinion. Keep the aligned good and be prepared to need tires before the tread is gone, due to wearing issues. You may need a nice set of caster/camber plates (maximum motorsports 4 bolt design > *) to keep them in check.

If you hav ea 9 inch wide rim you REQUIRE a 275 wide tire UNLESS its an 18 inch then a 265 fits better mathematically. For a 10.5 you are gonna need a MASSIVE tire a 275, 295, or 305 is simply NOT ENOUGH meat for that rim... a 315 may not even fit perfect. So keep that in mind.

If you go cheap on the tires why did you buy the rims wide to begin with..... so keep that in mind, and if you go cheap the tires will look like crap as they are stretched over the rim.

Other than that do what ever tickles your pickle, just know what you are getting into.
