I have an 2000 3.8L. If i remove my mufflers, will that decrease my gas mileage?

Most of the time they sound a lot meaner. More hollowness to them. One thing that i noticed about the older v6's is the exhaust sounds good on them cause the mufflers are underneth the car in the middle of the car not straight out the back. The 05's are sticking right out the back so you get a higher pitched sound. the older stangs have the muffler half way under the car then you get straight pipes out the back. Instead of straight pipes going to mufflers like the 05's & 06's.
You guys got it opposite and I think that provides a better sound. Kinda like how truck's do there exhaust the muffler is always about in the middle of the car and has straight pipes running out to the back.
I'd try to find a few sound clips before haveing a hack fest!! lol

Taking your mufflers off will sound like ass and lead to headaches.
That and you'll lose torque.

From what I have heard on the Mac stuff, they use 3" tailpipes
with 2 muffs and a y-adapter, but some of the reading I've done
regarding smaller engines, you could get a 2.5" or larger muff set (2)
and run your pipes as this attachment shows: (see below)
Also note, you could use your stock pipe size up to the muffler,
then use 2.25" or 2.5" or 3" out the back. This suggestion was
made by David Vizard and he really knows engines  It makes
a deeper sound and more torque.

I can see how using a larger diameter pipe after the muffler might make the exhaust note a bit louder and deeper (due to an echo effect), but can you explain how that could give you more torque? 
In another year or so, I'll have to replace my pipes, and this time around I'd like to research a bit more carefully first! I did notice a slight increase in my mileage when I converted to duals, so taking the mufflers off completely probably would not decrease 00BlackStang's mileage. It might cause other problems, though!

The actual configuration is a bigger diameter muffler and it looks like
same or slightly larger piping after the muffs... I'd go bigger, IMO.
The oversized muffler makes the engine "see" the exhaust system as
terminated, and this oversized setup is transparent or "invisible" to
the engine. Backpressure at the oversized muffler is non-existent
as compared to what the engine needs and tha is the torque boost
as far as I can figure it.
Bigger pipes after the muffs do add lower tones, to wit, the
MAC bolton kit with 3" dual tailpipes, the clips I heard were
VERY V8-like for a V6 system, and it was on a stock 3.8 too.
