I was driving when suddenly my water temp guage shot all the way up...so i put it in neutral and coasted to the side of the freeway. Opened the hood to find my radiator basically empty and the engine smoking from the heat. There was a reddish liquid sprayed over the front of the engine. I filled the radiator and overflow with water and got it to my house...
so now i need to swap out my water pump. Is there any advice you guys have for this? About how long would it take? Do you happen to know of a how-to?
Thanks everyone
oh, and: I'm not 100% sure it's my water pump..but that is what my grandfather says it probly is so..

Should take about 2 hours. Water pumps for our cars are still pretty expensive for some reason tho.

Did you check for blown hoses or gaskets?

Actually, it does sound more like you have a leak somewhere, if your radiator was empty. I don't think that would have anything to do with pump...
Like he said above, check your hoses, and see if your radiator is leaking.

check all hoses, redish liquid could be tranny fluid? not sure how it got on the motor... does it smell like tranny fluid?
it could be coolant if you used that orangy coolant stuff.

Yeh, when he called me it sounded like he was talking about tranny fluid...but...it could be that colored coolant, didn't think about that.

Those are very hard to get out, it's probably easier to get it off the engine first and then off the pump....

omfg...
1. One of the bolts that connects the water pump to the engine broke off..will it leak without it or am i alright to at least give it a try?
2. Do i need to wait 24 hours for the silicon to fully dry or can i test it after like 12 hours?
Thanks again all

i would wait and i guess it depends on where the bolt is, i would try to get it out and replace it, you may can tap it out depending on how the break is.

Go to Sears and get an easy out. Personally I don't like broken bolts anywhere on an engine.
