Bad Gas or what?

Hi all, so I have a 2004 3.9L V6, with 14,500 ML, I was using 93 octane gas for about one year, with no problems even when the empty light came on.
Now I have changed to 89 octane, and there is noticable knocking, you know like a can of marbles, this happens starting from a dead stop up to 10 15 ml. It realy sounds bad. It doesnt really become noticable until there is only a 1/4left.
First I tried the recomended 87 oct. but that knocked right away so then I went up to 89 oct. maybe there miss labled ( bad gas )?
I dont know what to do, have you guys experienced anything like this
Is this going to screw my engine up?
maybe I should go back to 93 octane?
I use Sunnoco gas in NY. anybody recomend Mobil or Shell?

All three of those are good quality gas.
Is your car stock, no chip or anything of that sort?

NO chip, only K&N filter with dual flowmaster, I'm putting in a 42% udp next week.
I drive the car like its stolen, you know hard. maybe thats attributing to it?

That's a strange one  Any chance you got some water in the tank ?? Did you try disconnecting the neg battery cable to reset the ECC Just a thought

There is a myth that running 93 for extended periods of time leads to the engine getting used to it. Actually..it's pretty true. Your computer has gotten used to running 93 octane, so the sudden switch to 87 could cause problems with the computer. I'd recommend resetting the computer by taking off the negative battery terminal for a few minutes, and the computer will relearn itself to the new gas. Kinda far fetched, but worth a try.

when i get home I'll try the battery, hopefully its an easy fix, BUT whats this about water in the tank ? what do you mean ? how ?

Bad gas can have water in it But do what Lowflyn & myself suggested about thr ECC reset

For the most part all gas is mixed the same. The only time I'd really be worried is if there's a gas station selling gas for like 50 cents cheaper than anywhere else.

I seriously doubt that the computer has learned and gotten used to 93 octane.
If your car knocks with 87 something is terribly wrong. I would take it to the dealer, you still have your warranty right?

............Using a higher octane then necessary is not only a waste of cash but can cause build up deposits that your engine can't burn. Which will lead to needed to run this octane to keep it from dieseling (running after shutting off the ignition)in the first place. (Deposits form causing hot spots, and pre-igniting the fuel before the Spark plug is suppose to.)Called detonation or pinging.
Remember Higher octane gas actually burns SLOWER or cooler then lower octane fuels. Using this will cause the fuel that is not being burned to build up in your heads,valves,pistons, etc...... So the trick is not what you think is best,but actually matching the octane to what your timing, ignition, and engine can actually burn in the compression stroke.
So instead of doing your car a favor by spending the extra cash , you might actually be causing more problems down the road.

Ok now you guys have scared me, I hope I havent screwed my car up that bad.
I must tell you guys I have since filled up with 89oct. instead of 87 maybe the 87 is really 86 and so on?
the "can of marbles" only sounds for less then a minute at 10 - 20 ML, and it seems only to appear when i have been running the car non stop for over 2 hours. Other then that I dont hear anything, it does not happen all the time and when it does I get of the gas and re press and the pingning stops.
I dont know i really hate the idea of taking it to Ford and being without a car for a couple of days. BUT after you guys read this and still insist I'll get it checked out
