Everytime i put my auto 2003 mustang in N, my rpms only go up to 4 and half.
I have a stock GT muffler system put in by a shop. I cant think of anything that would limit my rpms to only 4 and half..... rpms should go up to a little over 5. Could anyone help me find the problem???
thanks

There's a seperate rev limiter for when you are in park and neutral as it is much easier to rev an engine when it is not under load and therefore much easier to accidently over rev. It is a good thing that it is set at 4000-4500, I would hate to show off my new exhaust by reving it up past that range, V6's tend to lose any "nice" tone from the exhaust by about 3500-4000 RPM and begin to sound high pitched.

Hey Lowflyn...
I am new to this forum as you can see, but I am a decently active poster on 3.8mustang.com, seems I have two great options to lend info and receive info on my 2000 Silver Vert, currently the only mod I have done is true duals with flowmaster 40's. PLans are gears, t-lok, X-Cal 2, and perhaps one day a turbo.. TMA?!?!
My Stang may be new to me, had it 6 months now, but I am very much a car enthuiast.. the only problem with my hobby is that for the most part I must admire from viewing and not driving as I am only 22 and insurance doesn't let me purchase anything with decent power. Awaiting the day I hit 25 and can reasonably purchase a used Cobra or the like...
So with that said, I will be sticking around this site too as well if that's cool with all of ya... oh, I'm also a canuck, and unfrotuantely at this point my vert is also my winter beater... thankfully it was winter driven already before I bought it or it would be put away for the winter

Haha, I understand, try being 20 and looking at insurance on a car with decent power...hence the v6 lol. And yeh, stick around, look forward to your input.

Yeh...with my chip the limiter is taken off and moved up to around 6k...last time I did a free rev so a friend could hear the exhaust, I blew the welds on my passenger exhaust manifold. There is no reason you should rev your car up that high with no load...I'm just glad I didn't blow more than a manifold.
