Just for the sake of information.
I ran against a automatic 05' GT on a 1/8 track last weekend. It was modded with cia and Bassani pipes. I don't think it was tuned, cause he still used 87 octane. Factoy tires. His best runs were over 9.5 sec.
I line up with a him and won at 9.2 sec. The lowest I've gotten at that track is 9.10.

i thought the new GTs were faster in auto or manual, what were you 60ft times, alt?
9.1's are 99-04 gt times in manuals.

auto on the strip would be better because you will not have to slam on the clutch and ware out the transmission

ok so #1, this thread is nearly 2 years old...will you please look at the thread date before you post?
#2 if you know how to shift gears, you wont "wear out" a manual tranny and you will still be faster than an auto 9 times out of 10...but that is a big IF...
and #3 I am not trying to b!**h or anything, but can you say more than just a couple of words in your posts? if you have an opinion, substantiate it with some evidence or be a little more descriptive...

autos might be better in some applications, such as bracket racing where a guy might not have enough experience to nail the same times repeatedly with a manual trans...
But manual transmissions can take plenty of abuse

auto is always better at the drag strip in the case of bracket racing it can be said in one word "consistency"

sticks are seen as faster cause you loose less power from crank to the ground.
it makes the biggest difference in low horsepower cars. in high hp cars it can sometimes hurt more than help cause the power transfere is not as smooth

A good auto with a good quality torque converter with the correct stall speed is a superior drag racing transmission to a manual.

To shift or not to shift? That is the question. Wither 'tis nobler in the minds of racers to use a third pedal or not is a matter for debate.
Some says that if the car is going to be raced at the drags, the automatic transmission is the way to go. You stomp your foot on the accelerator and hold it there as the trans does all the work for you. If you want to go up through the gear as fast as quickly as possible, you want an automatic.
A manual transmission will have better deceleration, while an automatic has better acceleration. But you get 15 to 20 percent more power to the ground in a manual than in an automatic, as there is very little parasitic loss in a manual trans system
